Was reading up on the research that SFU and Dr Gries had been doing at the end of 2014 (didn't realize it'd also been posted here), and how they'd been working with Contech Enterprises to develop some actual devices, aiming for a release sometime last year. I'm guessing that didn't happen, and I haven't been able to find any updates about it otherwise. Anyone else here hear any news?

Oh, actually, I did just come across this article talking about how Contech went bankrupt. That probably put a damper on things :/

Personally, I think it was just a lot of hype from the academic community. Just like the FMC verifi and more recently the Senci monitor.

Comtech went bankrupt as noted above. Scotts Canada has taken over sponsorship and hopes to commercialize the traps. No timeline given. Here's the announcement from February 2016 :

    Hi,
I called Scott corporate office, which is in the US, to get information and didn't get any. I suggest people call so they see there is interest in the product. I also spoke to Professor Gries and he told me that Scott was where it was being commercalized. I guess it doesn't hurt if people call him too to show all the interest. I feel you can't have enough great products.

    Hey guys,

    Please see the petition below:

    https://www.change.org/p/e-lise-toronto-bedbug-crisis

I can not believe that when millions of people are suffering from this crisis, only 63 people has signed it to support it.
Please come out of the closet. Enough of stigma and embarrassment.
You did not choose to be a bed bug victim and you are not a leper! So, please come forward and sign this petition.

WE NEED NEW RESEARCH TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. CITY SPRAYING FEW APARTMENTS AND TRYING TO CONTROL FEW PLACES WONT SOLVE THE PROBLEM.

WE NEED HIGH LEVEL GOVERNMENT FUNDING FOR RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF NEW NOBLE CHEMICALS AND TECHNOLOGY TO ERADICATE BEDBUGS!!

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SIGN THE PETITION!

Hi, here are replies I received for my inquiries on this topic:

Reply from Researches at SFU (Dr. Gries)

Sorry for my belated reply! (was down under with deadlines)

Please be advised that our industrial sponsor (Scotts) is working on the development of our bed bug pheromone technology. The plan is to launch the first generation of pheromone-baited traps sometime in 2017.

Please do not hesitate to contact me again if you have further questions.

    All the best for 2017!

    Cheers

    Gerhard

It is now available as Ortho Bed Bug Trap, but only in USA currently. I am trying to find it in Canada.
