    Toledo,

    Thanks for posting the link.

I didn't know that bed bugs could live 15 days without feeding or that shaking new clothes over a white towel was such an effective tactic.

We need to ask the networks to hire some competent technical advisers to get reliable information to the public... The viewers need accurate pictures and information from their news sources.

So are you saying this information is NOT reliable? I liked the comment about checking out where your pet sleeps. I took my dog's kennel outside today, took it apart, and gave it a thorough cleaning.

Unfortunately he doesn't understand bed bugs and since the NPMA is linked, maybe he gleaned information from that site. I wrote the show already about some of the misinformation.

Re: the tip Doug referred to:

    • When you return from a trip, take out each article of clothing from your suitcase and shake them out over a white towel. Then immediately throw into the washing machine and wash and dry your clothes along with the towel on the highest temperature setting.

Not only is the shaking clothing over a white towel not effective in helping you spot bed bugs, but if you're going to THEN throw ALL the items in the dryer with the towel, what is the point of the shaking business?!?

    This advice sounds insane!

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."

Nobugs, loved your analysis! I nearly choked on my coffee when he was shaking the clothes over the towel and then dumping everything into the washing machine anyway. The only explanation I can come up with for that is if you did see any bugs, you'd know that taking all the trouble to check for them was worth it. As for checking shopping bags, I think anyone who's lived in NYC knows that that's where roaches like to hang out (I always thought it was because they like the glue?) and we always throw them out, lol!

As I wrote earlier, I wrote the station, but no one answered me, yet.

    Hi -
I was watching a news segment on a major network in Western Canada a week or so ago and they were interviewing a young couple with bedbugs- the couple showed some live samples of bedbugs they had caught, AND some samples of their WORM larvae!!

I did a double take as didn't think bedbugs had a 'wormy' stage - checked here on the forum and confirmed they DON"T (thank-you for that response) ........so thousands of people are now busy checking for little worms in their houses..............

    More misinformation.

I think 'The Doctors' show was doing a segment on bedbugs today........I should check it out......

    Thanks, MyWorstFear!

I'd probably be in big trouble if I had to give instructions quickly on television -- I am sure everyone gaffes now and again, but these "protocols" seem very iffy.

If bed bugs could only survive without food for 15 days, they would be easy to get rid of! Yes, shake your clothes out all over the place why don't you!!! This kind of stupidity and ignorance makes me mad!!!
