I woke up this morning to find this thing sitting on the wall near the bed, not doing anything.

A little more than a week ago my girlfriend had three bites about 6 inches apart, from her neck down her arm. We didn't think much of it at the time. Other than that we haven't had any bites and no other signs.

It looks very, very bad to me--but would be very appreciative if someone could confirm. Thanks!

Is it odd it was out in the bright morning, totally exposed.

Yes, I'm sorry brooklynruoh, it does appear to be a bed bug or close relative.

Have you had to deal with bed bugs before?

Start by reading the FAQs on here.

If you are in an apartment or rent, contact your landlord and save the specimen to show your landlord and PCO.

Let us know what questions you have.

    Ugh... fughing hell.

No, never dealt with them before. Just years of paranoia (I have those interceptors for the bed legs ready to go)

Is it worth washing everything right now?
Assuming this guy has not been hear long, but laid eggs, when could I except things to ramp up?

Or if we do not get bites after this, when can we assume it was a one off and we are in the clear?
    Is that a naive question?

    Thanks.

I wouldn't rush to start washing everything, that might not be the source. Check your mattress, box spring and frame for confirming signs like fecal staining, cast skins and actual bed bugs.

OK -- I'm doing an exhaustive search of the mattress and box spring -- this is all I've turned up
a small bit of feces where the box spring cover and box spring meet.

Here are pics of the feces -- no eggs and no shells so far. Is this at least optimistic?

If I soak these areas in rubbing alcohol can they return to use?

    You might want to post the above links in a new thread, titled something like "fecal ID needed". It will get seen faster by the experts. The stains can also be presumptively tested for blood using either a product called Bed Bug Blue (see useful tools section above) or the phenolphthalein presumptive blood test. (Link below.}

But probably best do nothing, including rubbing or washing, until an expert chimes in.

Well, no need to panic in any event.

Yes, you have bed bugs, or at least a "bed bug", but "Big Dummy", above, asked you to look for "confirming signs" on your bedding to help narrow the source before moving ahead, with washing, etc. Only a few people here can confirm bed bug fecal, so that's why I made the suggestion I did. Does that make sense?

It it turns out that it's not a lone hitch hiker, are you planning on bringing in a PCO? Best to either do that, or read up on the FAQ's if you plan to self treat -- before going off and doing this and that on your own.

Sorry - the pics in question are in fact bed bug feces.

If you or others don't have bites you may be non reactors. Time to leave everything in place and call a pro in. Or if you're a renter call management.

    Best of luck!!

Alright I'm done at my end-- won't meddle anymore until I get in touch with my landlord's PCO
Thanks for your quick response guys.
