    Harrison G. Dyar, Jr. (1866-1929):
    His early days in New York, research and eccentricities

    This lecture will focus not only on Dyar’s prolific scientific accomplishments and mysterious double life of digging tunnels and bigamy, but on how Epstein found his way solving a number of ‘Dyarian riddles’ because it took being the next worker on Dyar’s favorite insect group, the Limacodidae (slug moth caterpillars). Soon after beginning his dissertation research, Epstein found Dyar to be the biggest contributor to the Journal of the New York Entomological Society in the 1890s.
