    Hi,
Since my previous post I've been able to persuade my landlord into letting me out of the lease without penalty and have begun looking for new residency.

My next concern lies in making sure that I do not bring the bedbugs from this forsaken building with me to the new apartment. To this end, I've found a couple companies that do Vikane treatments inside of moving trucks (U-Hauls). One is based in NYC: BBFS and one is in LA: Benex.

I am wondering if anyone knows of one that is near or in the Bay Area as I am in San Jose proper and would like to minimize travel time for this treatment.

Also, what are the general opinions about efficacy of Vikane treatments around here?

    Thank you.

BBFS doesn't only work in NYC. I don't know if they're in the Bay area, but contact them to see.

Bed Bugs and Beyond refers clients to local service providers for Vikane (or rather, sulfuryl fluoride-- because it's no longer just that brand name which is availabl), and they too may be able to send you to someone local.

You can also contact companies directly which do sulfuryl fluoride fumigations generally and ask if they'll do a truck.

Note some companies also do a pod.

And note that heat treatment is also available in many places. There's a trailer called an Insect Inferno which has gotten a lot of positive attention. Go to the manufacturer's website (Google
Insect Inferno") and see if they can tell you if someone in the Bay Area has one of their trailers.

I can't personally recommend BBFS or Bed Bugs and Beyond as I haven't used either and I have no connection with them that I'm aware of with (except that people involved with these companies have posted on this site before).

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."

    More possibilities:

PestTec's website says it has "hot box treatments for use during move-in/move-out" and "chambers for individual items". So it sounds like they could do heat treatments of your stuff.

On another forum thread, Alliance Enviro was named as a firm that uses ThermaPure heat in the San Francisco area. The website doesn't make it clear whether they will treat a truck, but it's worth calling.

Note: I can't personally recommend either of these companies, have no connection with them which I'm aware of.

I've called them and it looks like they will do a truck treatment, but they're not too quick on returning my call with the details, however. I will follow up about my experience with them or another company I choose to go with.

    Hi troll,

I would definitely call a few companies before you commit. It may be that Pestec or someone else has an Insect Inferno. And prices and technology may vary widely.

    Hi again,

The initial quote from Alliance came in at a whopping $1800, which I quickly negotiated down to $1350 plus a free K9 inspection of the new place within 30 days of my treatment. Pestec's initial quote was $1300 just for the treatment.

After a bit of back and forth with both Alliance and Pestec (as well as, pestering a Pestec professional to finally call me back) I've managed to get the quote down to $1000 from Pestec to heat treat my belongings inside of a 14" U-Haul. I've yet to speak with the specialist about the details of the treatment, but he mentioned that they offer no guarantees on the treatment.

[Edit: the Alliance tech also mentioned they offer no warranty for the treatment]

Finally, the Alliance tech mentioned that 122° F will be lethal to the eggs. When I asked if my belongings could be treated at a higher temperature (I suggested 140F) he said the heaters are only specced for 135F -- so I'm not sure what to make of this.
