I haven't seen many pictures of fecal stains in books/on book spines, which surprises me a bit. Are there specific features to look for that would distinguish them from things like ink, dirt, or mold? What should trigger concern?

I saw this in the front cover of a book I was handling (but wasn't in my house or bag at all): https://imgur.com/a/FIydl3q

Some of these spots don't look fecal to me at all, but the presence of some that are flat and don't rub off made me wonder. Is there cause for concern, and any tips for distinguishing?

    Nothing bed bug related.
Books are an uncommon harborage, I've only run across it when dealing with a heavy infestation. Books are a great place to support mildew in humid conditions and by design a great collector of dirt and debris.
