Hi all, We recently bought new sheets and after the first wash noticed these little black spots on the flat sheet, fitted sheet, and the pillow cases. There seem to be more over time. They are tiny and of varying sizes--mostly like a marker dot as I've seen others describe here. I recognized the possibility of bedbugs but can't find any other evidence of them on the mattress pad or cover, the mattress itself, the pillows, or around the bed frame. There's no staining or marks of any kind anywhere but on the sheets. Everything else is spotless. Could these be from bedbugs? We are freaking out over here. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!!

Those don‘t make me suspect bed bugs. Too black, especially the smeared one. Too irregular in size. Not enough bleeding into the fabric.

You can try a smear test. Take a q-tip and some salvia and smear one of the dots. Bed bug fecal would smear in a rusty, brown color.

First thought was mascara or something like that.

Thanks so much for weighing in--we have been stewing over here! These sheets have definitely been washed since these spots appeared. Does the saliva test only work if the spots are fresh?

IDing after washing is not easy and the smear test won‘t work but still those are not bed bug feces. They do become black when washed.

Hypothetically: With that amount of feces on the sheet, there would‘ve been a colony nearby. They tend to poop near there hiding place and you would find a concentration there. Relax.
