Hi. I'd like some input from the pros on these stains that I saw on a box spring at a hotel I stayed in last night. Are they fecal stains?

There were two stains on the upper edge of the box spring at the head of the bed. Now, both stains were where the interior metal part of the box spring "juts out" a bit, so I am hoping it is just from rubbing against something. More background info below, but, first: photos! They are taken with my cell phone camera and are not very good. I'm sorry I couldn't get better images.

I always inspect the beds in hotels, and this was the first time I found something that concerned me. Honestly, I wasn't sure what to do, because I couldn't ID the stain on my own, and I couldn't access this forum to ask you guys at the moment. I ended up showing it to the hotel manager. He was very nice; he said he was happy to move me to another room if I wanted, but that he was pretty confident it wasn't BB fecal. Obviously, though, he's not a pro. I opted to stay in the room, because I was extremely pressed for time (had tickets to an event), and I had to get up super early the next day for my flight.

As a precaution, for the (short) duration of our stay, I placed all our belongings (with the exception of a couple things-- glasses and cell phones) in large garbage bags that I tied shut. (I often bring these with me when I travel.)

Of course, now I'm back home and worried!

Thank you for your help. I should purchase Bed Bug Blue for my future travels.

    Hi,

Too homogeneous black to be faecal.

Please see the blood spots on sheets primer for reference images.

    Hope that helps.

Thank you very much, David. I appreciate your time and expertise.

I've looked at the very informative primer in the past, and it has certainly helped me-- I've gotten to the point where I can rule out certain stains-- but many stains still stump me! There is also an element of fear that kicks in when I'm trying to evaluate a stain in a hotel room scenario-- like, I don't feel confident in my ID skills, and therefore I don't want to take any chances.

(By the way, props to the hotel manager for correctly assessing the stain! He actually said that he thought it was "too black" to be fecal.)

    Thanks again!
