    Hi all.

Just an interesting update on my bed bug story if you feel like reading it. PCO came to treat my house with the heat treatment today. He had recently found bat bugs (and had them confirmed by an entomologist) in another house 50 miles from my town. He had a wildlife specialist inspect my chimney and they found lots of evidence of bats. A lot of (what I had thought to be) bed bugs I found in the rooms surrounding the chimney, but I have not found any evidence of them in my bed or even many bites on me. So, he's going to take one of my bugs to an entomologist tomorrow to get it identified.

Funny that I haven't seen a bug in a few days. My theory if they really are bat bugs: they all came in to the house when we were having 110 degree days. Now that it's cooler, they're back in the chimney waiting for bats. Interestingly, I feel that they really didn't act like bed bugs because I found a lot of them out in the day in my bathroom, kitchen, and spare room (all room surrounding the chimney). Or they could just be odd bed bugs.

My landlord is deciding what to do if they are bat bugs since he would probably be putting out the money for it. They would also treat the chimney and make it bat-proof.

What I do know is that bat bugs are pretty similar to bed bugs when their primary host removed-they bite people and sleep in your bed with you- so hopefully the PCO will come up with a good treatment plan!

Wish me luck whatever bugs I got!

Update: turns out they are bat bugs.

They are going to treat the rooms near the chimney with heat, do a crack and crevice chemical treatment in my house, and make the chimney bat-proof on Thursday, and then clean and treat the chimney and attic on a different day.

Unfortunately, I still have to treat everything the same way I have been...washing and drying everything and being careful not to take them out of the house with me. They're pretty much just as pesky as bed bugs...but I guess now we know the source.

Maybe my experience will help someone else. The PCO did ask me if I had bats the first time he came over. I said no, but I guess there was no way of me telling if I had them in the chimney.

    later!

Finding the true cause is important -- good for you. Even if the treatment is similar in many ways, eliminating the bats is crucial and so it is really good to know which kind of bug is biting you.

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."
