Apologize about the quality of the picture. My phone camera is not behaving well.
I have uploaded 4 pictures of the same stain.Hopefully one of them will help the experts analyze.

Bedbug fecal will smear. Check for evidence along the piping of the mattress.

Thanks Jim for the response.
Question: Are you saying this is not smeared and hence probably not fecal matter? I posted because I thought it smeared. It was already smeared when I saw it, probably because someone else touched it. Maybe I am getting the meaning of smear wrong?
This mark is on the mattress protector, hence cant look at the mattress piping. I did not see any new marks on the protector but they could be just hiding on the frame.

Be sure to check the metal frame of the bed and the headboard if you have one.
