My sense from reading a post by Sean at thebedbugresource.com [site no longer active, link removed] is that bird mites (not related to bed bugs) and bird bugs (a close relative of the bed bug) might infest an A/C unit. These are pests that start out feeding on birds and move over to feed on us when the birds are gone.

I am not an expert but I understand that if you have bed bugs, then they are probably harboring in areas of your home where they can easily get to you. In this case, I suspect that there is not much danger of the A/C being infested unless you leave it lying around in the infested location (between when you remove it from the window, and when you move it).

Of course, I would defer to any experts on this.

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."
