I've read that many PCO's as well as self-treaters are using either Nuvan Pro Strips or Hot Shot Pest Strips to treat bagged belongings such as books, electronics, etc.

But what about larger items like couches or chairs? Any personal experience or other insight into for example bagging the couch up with either a speciality furniture bag or with taped together plastic sheets?

And beyond that -- what about making a large "kill chamber" using a simple wooden frame and plastic sheeting stapled and then taped up ? Such a chamber could be built in a spare room and allow DDVP treatment for practically all household items at risk, yet be contained enough that one could continue living in the space for the week or two the treatment requires.

How effective do you think such a treatment might be as compared to heat or conventional treatment? Or what about combining this sort of DDVP treatment with conventional treatment? Certainly seems like less expensive and less of a hassle then sending stuff out for Vikane gas and a really good adjunct to conventional treatment for those hard to treat belongings.

Lastly, the only difference I have heard -- other than labeling -- between the Nuvan and the Hot Shot's are that Nuvan comes in different strengths and Hot Shot only one. Are the cubic foot recommendations on the label geared for bed bugs because if they are then throwing in one Hot Shot strip for a bag of books is real overkill. Since some of us can't get Nuvan strips (NY state for example) has anyone just cut up the Hot Shot Strip to approximate the recommended dose?

Richard: Here's a thread from another user, who worked on something like this, in cooperation with her PCO. (Posting the link for information, not an endorsement. I can't vouch for effectiveness, safely or repeatability.)

Here's a place that makes plastic dumpster liners. http://extrapackaging.com/roll-off/index.htm that might be used to build a container for fumigating with DDVP.
