Please help, Look at this picture above taken from our Motel room. I'm afraid we may have brought these home in our luggage New Years day. The Country Inns and Suites, Ontario Canada where we stayed had the manager look at them as 3 ran under the pillow. Today they called and said they had an expert examine them and they were "Click Beetles" ?

What's your opinion this picture above is of a click beetle

The pic you sent is blurry. Can you improve the pic?

I'm not an expert just a dumb struggling bed bugger like every body else.

I'm not an expert, but compare that to pictures. It doesn't look like a bedbugs.

This above picture is as good as I can get it, below is for sure one from a web photo of a real one.

Bed bugs have six legs and two antennae. Hold on. One of the experts hopefully will stop by soon and give you more clarity.

I can't say definitely because the photo is blurry, but it is very close. I would rule out click beetle. Is it possible to get another photo, less blurry?

Maybe another pro will want to give it a positive but i don't feel safe ringing the alarm bells without a clearer photo. It is very suspicious though ill give it that.

    Wait around for lou.

To be fair all "insects" have 6 legs as far as i know. And that pic does look suspiciously alit a bed bug but its too poor quality to say for sure.

If you google" click beetles", apparently they do strange and unique things when you roll them over, assuming it's still alive. Maybe worth an experiment until an expert comes along?

I hope nobugsonme doesn't mind, but I took the liberty of improving the contrast only in order to bring some detail to light:

improved contrast picture if same bug

That should help a lot. Wait for an expert.

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."

Ya if I play with the contrast and put it next to a known real one (on the right) ... I'll wait for the expert.

Yeah after all of that playing around with the contrast i am sorry but it seems like it is a bed bug. Contact the front desk and have them take a further look. Don't go in the lobby yelling, try to be reasonable.

Get a different room for the time being and put all your belongings in the dry bathtub.

Take proper precautions to make sure you do not bring them home.

Looks very suspicious. I agree with NY Bug Man, take some extra precautions while you wait for an expert ID.

Knew it was a bed bug from the first picture. Both clear enough to say it's a bed bug.

And I'm an expert on hotel bugs

    Hi Tombug,

Sorry to hear about your situation.

Have you read these info yet?

    1. http://bedbugger.com/2006/10/19/faq-how-can-i-avoid-bedbugs-while-traveling/
David's hotel check video recommended that one should check the headboard of the bed. However, taking the headboard apart may cause personal injury and incur motel damages. If you really want to check it in the new room, ask the motel staff to assist you.

Hope things go smoothly for you. Take care.

Thanks everyone, it was only a one night stay and fortunately everything was put in plastic bags out of paranoia so I will try using Nuvan strips inside each bag. I'm going to steam clean the car in case any are in there where my luggage was. As for the Motel I hope they just told us a lie to get out of any refunds and are treating that room so nobody else gets unknowingly infested.

Yes a Cimex for sure as to specifically which too blurry for a phone ID. Not a click beetle. If it is alive and you flip the click beetle on it's back it will flip. I'm sure your sample won't.

Tombug, that place has had bedbugs on more then one occasion according to the registry. Unfortunately their "expert" if they called one may not be much of one. They may be trying to pull the wool over your eyes

Comfort Inns and Suites contacted me today and made it right by me with a courteous apology and a full refund. I'm also pretty sure they have corrected the issue in that room. No Motel chain wants these problems but I guess it's inevitable when so many people are passing through.

    Dear tombug,

What you have there is definitely NOT a click beetle.

However, it seems to be an example of a poorly taken photo of a bed bug.

As such, it would seem that what you've been told by these folks is less than so.

If you still have your critter, perhaps you can shoot a well focused and illuminated photo and repost same.

    Good luck ! pjb

No we don't have it, the picture was taken at the room. Everything has been cooked and steamed and since they made it good by us I would probably stay there again. After a thorough inspection, as I will do at every Motel I stay at from now on.

Correction: It was Country Inns and Suites I don't know why I keep typing Comfort Inns and Suites.
