    Hi,

I have found myself bed-bug free after a four-month struggle. Since the initial diagnosis in late September, my frameless futon has been covered in a bed bug-specific mattress encasement. My question is: should I be investing in a new futon, or can I keep my old one with the cover on?

    Thank you for your help.

    Hi,

I've been free for almost 3 years and I also encased my futon mattress and still have it. As long as the encasement is intact and protected from tears, you really should be OK. I have a separate upholstered futon mattress cover on top of the encasement to protect it, so I've never taken the encasement off. I am not an expert, though, and I relied on my exterminators determination at that time that I could keep it so long I kept it encased for at least 18 months.
