    Please tell me this is not a bed bug. Hopeful it is not, my guess is chigger (red...adult form perhaps given it appears to have 8 legs?) or a tick. Confirmation would be very helpful please. Thank you.

    Lou, any idea what it may be?

    It's a mite. Not sure which species but doesn't look like a rodent or bird mite. One of the outdoor mites. Could be predaceous. Could be free living.

    Thank you. Do you think it could be a chigger mite? Is it odd it was found in iur home by the bed? We do love rural and have a dog who likely is bringing pests in...

    A chigger that would be found feeding on you is microscopic; you wouldn't really see it. You know it's there because of the formed tube, its feeding tube in which it lives. By the time you get itchy, it has already left. The adult is one of the velvet mites, not this one.
