    Good afternoon!

I found this little critter crawling on the floor this morning. Don't think he's anything to worry about, but I like to leave that call to the experts these days.

As always, thanks for your help!

    Thank you so much, Jim!

Do you think he's a type of carpet beetle? I only ask, because our apartment is all hardwood floor.

Actually this insect isn't a beetle. It's a true bug, a member of the order Hemiptera (same as bed bugs). Family is Thyreocoridae (Ebony Bugs). Outdoor insect that feeds on flowers and developing seeds. Makes a wrong turn and winds up in the house. Nothing to worry about.

Professional entomologist/arachnologist. I consult on all matters dealing with insects and arachnids, including those of natural history and biology to pest management and forensic entomology investigations.

Thanks, Lou! I corrected the title.

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."

And this is why I consult the experts!

An ebony bug. Hmm. That's a new one on me.

Thanks Lou for the clarification and the continued education!
