A new story on the blog today: bed bugs at work in Wausau Wisconsin, and for the entomologists-- the French have developed a new bed bug vacuum (no more sampling with an aspirator/pooter)!

Check it out on the blog (Bed bugs attack Wausau, & a tricked-out bed bug vacuum) and if you have comments, please consider leaving them after the article to keep discussion in one place!

If you like, you can log in using your forum credentials, or just fill in the comment form without logging in. Thanks in advance for sharing your feedback.

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."

With a mouthful of bed bugs as the worst case scenario (or an aspirator in your mouth as the best case scenario), you would be speechless either way!

Without any help, I don't think we'll get there.

Too bad David's not here to share pooter stories.

LOL, somewhere I actually footage of where a film crew caught me "chewing" on a mouthful of bedbugs as part of a TV piece which showed a puter malfunction.

If I can find the footage I will post it to YouTube.

I would not recommend this approach and several very senior academics have actually asked me to stop doing it for health reasons as it exposes you to a potentially significant source of allergens.

As for the "tricked out cleaner" unless its the digital motor one it's useless. I used to have 5 spare battery packs per technician when we used them because its really designed as a "spill clean up" rather than prolonged clean up. I think I will stick to my R Naylor MkII - 10,000 bug capacity puter which attaches to a modified Dyson (or preferably Brand X cleaner, which we have the last boxed stock of as they are no longer available due to changes in EU law). I am a real geek when it comes to my gadgets but am pleased to see that the world is starting to catch up, we used that sort of approach only 4 years ago.
