On March 2 at Open House Gallery, 201 Mulberry Street from 11-6 in NYC there is a Bed Bug Prevention Showcase.

The showcase is 100% ok for children; they won't leave the exhibit thinking that bed bugs are everywhere. The emphasis of the event is education about bed bugs and how to prevent them.

It's a fun, free event that is family friendly. They'll have gift bags
and kids can get their BB The Bed Bug, a costumed character who'll be
    there.

All of the official details are below, including the folks who'll be there to educate anybody about bed bugs. If you have any questions about the event all of my information is at the bottom of the email.

    Hi DaddyMojo,

Can you tell us who is sponsoring this event?

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."

Being familiar with Jeff W and his "fireside chats", I was also wondering who Daniel was. His bio is on BedBugCentral.com. Pic, too. Looks just like Jeff, but younger. Son? Brother?

    Hey Nobugsonme,
It's being sponsored by Bed Bug Central.

I just noticed that Steve Bessette is the Founder of EcoSmart Tecnhologies, where he promotes EcoSmart as an "all natural non-toxic product", Gretchen E. Paluch is the EcoSmart Director of Research, and Genma Homes, whose bio lists as her pest control company's goals, "promoting the use of minimum risk pesticides by EcoSMART."

I do not know much about EcoSmart or their products, and I do not have any opinions on this company one way or the other, but it does seem like a big coincidence that 3/4 of the participants have a connection with one pesticide company, and that this company is not mentioned once in the Media Alert you've posted.

It does not seem irrelevant, if one of the plans is to "demo the latest bed bug prevention products."

NoBugs, thanks for the info. Contemplating taking my kids out of school to go down to NYC to see this. Mainly because my 6yr old has recently asked me questions about bed bugs. I fear the city to no end and only go in if I have to. But to bring up the strength to cart three small children for a long ride to find some one trying to sell me something (and in front of my children no less) would really piss me off.

    Hey there Paul and Bug,
This is an educational showcase only, no sales-promise. As a SAHD myself I'd be angry too if someone tried to push something one me as well.

Just an update -- DaddyMojo has confirmed via email that the showcase is being sponsored by Bed Bug Central, EcoSmart, and BugZip.

Paula, it does sound like it might be enjoyable for your little ones.

Danny is my brother. He started with the company a year and half ago and is our account rep for bed bugs (on the Cooper Pest Solutions side) but helps with BedBug Central stuff. He knows his bed bugs and will be there to help and learn from me how to handle media interviews.

We often get asked if we're twins.

Nobugs, We use EcoSmart products quite often. Mix results to say the least. Some bugs they knock the daylights out of. Some it gets a little tougher. The AR-X is my favorite. Biggest problem I have with all their products is they just break down too fast. They do what they are intended to do.

I will say I have no affiliation with EcoSmart. There is the one contact killer I really enjoy, the rest of the products are... meh. Oh and regardless if they say "un-scented" or not, it smells like a damn flower shop when you're done treating. Some people don't mind, I do. I'm a synthetic guy myself.

Just an important FYI, after we read on here that this was open to the public we called our PR contact with EcoSmart's to check with her and she DID NOT confirm that this was open to the public. She was going to look into what was going on and we never heard back.

I'm not saying that this IS OR ISN'T open to the public as I received conflicting reports. But I would check before anyone shows up. I would hate to see someone come from miles and be turned away. This was not originally planned to be open to the public (it was supposed to be a media only event). That may have changed in the last few days though.

Guess it's for children in the BB trade?

Dan White is on the bill, Jeff is apparently there, too, but uncredited. But who's inside the "BB the Bed Bug" constume?

Thanks, Jeff. I am not sure whose PR firm Trey Burley is working for (see Daddy Mojo's post above), but it sounds like some wires have been crossed.

The Bed Bug Prevention Showcase is for media only.

It's not for children or for general-bb-interest folks.

I just came from there, and did have the opportunity to meet with Jeff White and others. I didn't see any "BB the Bed Bug". It became clear the event wasn't intended for members of the public such as myself so I made my exit.

…but not before scotch-taping the gallery walls, right?
