I just moved in to a new apartment less than 2 weeks ago. This is my first real apartment and I had to furnish it myself-- new bed frame, mattress, dresser, sheets, everything (mostly from Ikea).

My two roommates and I hadn't experienced any problems. I briefly considered getting a mattress encasement just in case (I do live in Manhattan and I know that bedbugs are a possibility), but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Anyway, I came home tonight, got into bed, and saw a small bug sitting on my pillowcase. I quickly disposed of it, and checked online for the first thing that came to mind-- was it a bedbug? It looks just like the images that I found online. So of course I started freaking out.

I hunted around my room and haven't yet seen any others. What should I do??? I had even just washed my sheets this afternoon! I'm stressed out now and can't fall asleep!

I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks so much.

And here's another question: I've slept over at my boyfriend's place twice in the past week. What are the chances that I got them from there and/or carried them there? Should I not go back until my place is BB free?

You're already assuming you have a bb problem. A picture would be nice.

Thanks for the reply. It's easy to freak out about such things at 3am, and I know I shouldn't have done so before having information.

Unfortunately, I kind of crushed the bug when I first saw it, which was before I had really considered bed bugs. But I've uploaded two pics of it, plus two pics of different marks on my newly washed sheets that might be fecal stains?

If you can get photos 3 and 4 more in focus, people may be able to give you a clear ID. I think the coin is attracting the autofocus feature in the camera, so maybe post a 5 and 6 of scenes 3 and 4 without the coin.

The first two spots don't look bed bug related to me.
