There’s an app for this: Bed Bug Identifier

David James is known to many of us as the creator of the Packtite (the FAQ on the Packtite is here).

You may have noticed he now has a new iPhone and iPod Touch Application: Bed Bug Identifier. It’s $4.99 from the iTunes applications store.

Bed Bug Identifier’s “Reference” section includes articles (insects mistaken for bed bugs, control tips, travel tips, etc.) and photos (bed bug life cycle) “Hotel Hot Spots” helps you search a hotel room for bed bugs, by showing you where to look in the room, and what evidence looks like. It also has a helful “Life Cycle” wheel, showing various life stages and sizes (and colors).

The material is sound and though it will be familiar to hard-core bedbuggers, is a helpful educational tool. It seems like it would be especially helpful for regular travelers.

David Cain of Bed Bugs Limited (UK) speaks very highly of this app and says he knows of one person who has already used it to search a hotel room and avert disaster (bed bug signs were indeed found).

We need more bed bug education and we need it every which way we can get it!

Here’s a video of David James at the recent NPMA 2009, showing off the Packtite and Bed Bug Identifier (thanks to Pete Grasso of PMP magazine for the video!):

(Disclosure: David sent me a free download of the application so I could try it out. You can read the site’s Disclosure Policy here.)

Love it! I want an iphone! I’d definitely put this on it if I had one.
