giant microbes bed bug

There was a time when I was innocent and would have found this to be kind of cute. This is from a site that sells plush microbes and insects: you know, your plague, your E. Coli, and of course, our dear friend the bed bug. Sure, this pink bug doesn’t look exactly like a bed bug, but those are the two “straws” we’ve heard described for the laypeople: one is used to inject you with a saliva that makes you unaware of what’s happening, and the second is used to suck your blood. (I despise these bugs, but they are really well-designed for their purpose, you have to admit that!)

These plush microbes seem to be very popular with doctors and scientists. Now, if you’re wondering what to get your favourite entomologist for his birthday, wonder no more!

Update: only hours later, I discover another one. What sick person came up with the name “Parasite Pals”?!? Now this one was obviously constructed by people who have no idea how sinister these bugs are.

A friend bought me one of the pink ones back during my infestation. I accepted the gift because it was well-intentioned, but I did not think it was cute or funny. No bedbugs allowed — fuzzy toys or otherwise! 😉

HI Caryn!
Yeah–my brother and I said the “Good nite, sleep tight, don’t let the bed bugs bite!” EVERY night when my mom tucked us in. Now the thought of what we thought was a cute rhyme makes me cringe.
