Wondering how freaked out to be

   We found what we are pretty sure is a bedbug today on our mattress. I live in NY and had noticed some bites BEFORE I GOT HOME last night, after having been at a bunch of places, including a theater and a cafe with couches (where I sat for an hour). My desperate hope is that I got a bug while out and that it came off of me and onto the bed while we slept. No one else (there is me, my wife and our 18-month old) has had any signs. Once a few years ago I got a rash of them in a hotel and came home, heat treated and nothing came of it. So we're trying to be optimistic.

   We are heat-treating all bed-linens and clothes, calling the landlord and getting an exterminator to do an inspection. We're trying to walk the line between vigilance and panic...

   Anything else we should be doing?

   If you can post a picture of the bug you found, the experts on the forum should be able to ID it for you. I would say the less you do before the PCO (pest control operator) inspects, the better. In the meantime, try not to panic!
