Will probably switch to encasement
(3 posts)-
I posted a couple of questions before. One of them was, "Will wrapping your bed in plastic keep the bed bugs out?" While I think that I did a decent job at this, there are a few issues. The plastic does not absorb our body heat so we are roasting and I usually wake up kinda sweaty. Another issue is that I know I wrapped the sucker pretty good because there was no air escaping and we were basically sleeping on an air matress, so I had to put a slit in the plastic, push out as much air as possible and tape it shut again. Another main issue is that the plastic is loud. When we roll over at night all you can hear is the rustling and crinckling of the plastic; it's very annoying.
I now have a couple of other questions. We're looking at maybe getting one of the advertised encasements from Protect-a-bed. Does anybody have any issues with this brand? Will they breathe so that we're not sleeping on a bed of air? Will our body heat pass through? And is it quiet? Will love any advice.

I received the protect-a-bed encasements last weekend and have been using them since then. They are soft, quiet, and breathe well. The kind I purchased is has a top that feels kinda like a bath towel and the bottom feels like a soft polyester blend. I have not experienced any overheating or other discomfort.
If you decide to purchase this brand, I recommend that you shop around. On my order I found differences of 15-25%. I, of course, took the cheapest option.

Thanks MuchoInsano. I needed something quick for our new mattresses, so wrapped the bed in plastic (35 bucks at Lowes). I was hoping this would suffice but I didn't think there would be these issues. If the box spring is protected sufficiently with plastic, there should be no problem with leaving it on. Would there? I too want to be as thrifty as possible.
