Will bedbugs bite through cloth?

We have both been sleeping completely covered wearing sweat shirts and pants with socks pulled up over the leg ends and I also closed the sleeve openings on my sweat shirt with the elastic bands from a cut off pair of socks.
I have assumed that if the skin is not bare you won't be bitten. But I really don't know. Is this method effective? We have to keep the AC on full all night so that we don't die from the heat of being all wrapped up in the summer.
I am so paranoid to every mark and every itch right now I don't know what might have been a bite from before I did this or a bite through the thick cloth. Of course, this does nothing for my exposed face, fingers, and neck, but I don't think I have been bitten there.
We are waiting for the PCO to come to talk to us about Thermal treatment. In the meantime we have got to do something. This is so devastating on me emotionally I am hanging on by a thin thread.
