Why, Oh Why?
(2 posts)-
I've been "living" with bed bugs since April. The apartment building I am in is old, and houses quite a few mentally ill and formerly homeless folks. The bugs were first found in my neighbors apartment, and they checked mine just to be on the safe side, and viola! They found some on the box springs. I live alone, and no one else living in the building has ever been in my apartment--it's not that type of building, and other than the landlord, and exterminator, no one here but me and the dog.
Cool, they sprayed, and continue to spray every other Friday (so every 14 days.) But they still appear, almost like magic on day 12/13. They seem to be isolated to the bedroom--I've not found them anywhere else since they sprayed the first time. When they first came out, they tore my apartment apart, and sprayed every crack and crevice, now they basically spray ever 2 weeks. They have been few and far between, but I just killed a huge one this morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Which is why I'm up now.
I did encase the mattress and box spring, which did seem to help ... well kind of. I'm ready to set out to the store again this morning and buy another set--not to take the old ones off, but to put over top of the ones already there.
I have sprayed, steamed, begged, prayed, (and on infinitum) but there seems to be no end in sight. My landlord is very good about getting them to spray, etc. But with the amount of people coming in and out of the building it seems like it's an impossible job. I've considered moving, but I'm living on a starving grad student budget--and darn it, I love this apartment, and have lived here for 18 years, and right now moving is honestly not an option.
Thanks for letting me vent. I think I'm going to head for the local 24 hour Walmart and see what they have as far as zippered covers. Also see if I can find some spray with Lambda-cyhalothrin, which I've seen recommended elsewhere on the forums. They'll be here to spray again on Friday, and with the weekend, I'll have time to pull things apart once again and spray the he** out of the dresser, etc.

Hey Jo. Sorry about your situation. Its stressful having these pests. Do you know if all they did was spray? Did they dusts outlets or under baseboards? Maybe since they are coming from other apartments this would a good idea. Ask the PCO when they spray Friday if they could dust outlets and cracks and crevices. Are all the adjacent apartment being treated as well? Sounds like they are missing something.
