By popular demand, there are now two "Who's Who" posts at the top of the green stickies, just waiting for your bio to be added, if you're an expert, pro or longtime bedbugger. (I sent some of the active experts an email about this.)

The purpose of this is for newbites to see who the experts are and who the seasoned forum participants are.

Photos welcome (for the non-anonymous). Have some fun. Thanks in advance for taking a moment to include yourself!

I started and run the site but am "not an expert."

Yes-- thanks to David for being the first expert to post!

I've heard from a few others that they will be posting shortly.

I know this is something we talked about for a long time -- which will help newbites know where their suggestions and support are coming from, so thanks again in advance to all!

Hmmmmm . . . only one expert/pro post so far?! Are we going to have to play a game of "You Show Me Your's and I'll Show You Mine" and/or "Let's Make A Deal" to get the experts (and some non-experts) to post?!

If you experts are just too modest - or way too busy - to post about yourself, I can pull together some information from your calendar page, send it to you and you can post it! (For the ones that have pages up to this point of course) (KQ your "on deck" -- Winston . . . batter up!)

(I can't personally post in the non-expert thread yet because I don't have a success story to link to . . . Bed bugs still freak me out . . . and I haven't found a PCO/PMP in my area to, ummm, "date" yet . . . so no success story for me yet!)

Ok . . . so who want's to go first (or actually that would be second since the amazing inventor David James went first)!

LOL, I thought I had better do mine before someone tried to write it for me.

In accordance with the AUP and FTC (legal requirements) I openly disclose my vested interest in Passive Monitors as the inventor and patent holder. Fabulous post in the expert thread David Cain!!

Would you write one for me in the non-expert category now (I'll send you pictures to go with it)!

    Seriously, great post!

    Hi AbsolutelyFreaking!

I've heard from Lou and KillerQueen that they're on it.

I think we just need to give it a bit of time and in the end, it will be a good resource.

However, AbFr, you're NOT off the hook. Newbites don't know your story and it's not really that you came here looking for a date. Remember that when people come here, they may think you "still have bed bugs" since joining in Sept. '12, and that's one of the reasons we want to introduce longtime members.

    Hi Paul,

The pros have repeatedly suggested that a "who's who" will help newcomers. The post I direct you to above gives instructions on what to post. (And it should be in this thread, where there's no discussion, not in this thread.) I hope that clarifies things.

After all, when you ID a pest, newbites just see your name, they don't know who you are.

Having a forum thread with bios will help for this reason -- people can quickly see who is a recognized expert/pro.

Some of you have asked for some kind of note under your name on posts but that's a bit trickier-- to figure out what it should say, and to decide how to vet people. This is an easy solution, I think.

    Hi Paul,
Sorry, I wasn't intending to pressure anyone.
If people don't want to be included, that's totally fine.
However, if you want to be known as an expert here, it's probably a good idea.

Bawahahaha!

    Dear NBs,

So, if I didn't post something on the green sticky thing then I'm downgraded to "non-expert status" ? ? ?

And, if so, how does this affect my compensation package here ?

More hours, less money? No OT pay? Reduced vacation time? What about sick days?

    These are serious concerns !

    However, consider the following:

What if you simply placed the word "expert" under the known expert folks names on our icon screen name thing?

And, you could place additional information and qualifications on our profile pages, no?

Additionally, you could have experts and new experts complete and submit an application type form to you privately to apply to be contributing experts on your website.

However, while some may think these are valid suggestions, it may seem overly burdensome to others.

In any case, I'm just happy to help where I can in the time I can carve out between actually working for those in need.

    Have a nice day ! paul b.

    Hi Paul,

You seem kind of angry and I am sorry about that. Again, this idea came about because experts seemed to think it was a good idea. And I want to stress that every one here appreciates the time you put in helping people on the site-- this idea is supposed to help make that easier for you.

It's not that your status would be downgraded. I'm talking about a thread that allows users to see who you are. If someone doesn't want to participate, then new users will know less about them.

It may seem like an easy thing to just label people "experts" but actually, verifying people's expert qualifications would seem to be a prerequisite-- and saying "expert" isn't really sufficient in my opinion. I'm not saying that labeling people "experts" won't happen in future but this is something I want to try first.

And this is more descriptive than a simple "expert" label. For example, some of the experts are more experienced at bug ID. Some are k9 experts but not pesticide experts. Some are bed bug experts but not pest generalists. And it may help users to identify people's actual skills and background.

As for your profile page, I don't edit that, you do. You can put qualifications there if you want to but newbites often don't know where to look. Just trying to help them get a little information about whose expert opinions to trust.

Hi. I'm a software developer in the Southwest in my early 40s . . .
    . . .
I did find an insect crawling on me which was close enough in appearance to elicit one of the few false positive responses from a few of the board pros. I finally ended up sending it to Lou in New York to get it conclusively identified. At the time the thread was known as the longest ID thread in the history of the site.

    @rs1971: Nice post in the Non-Expert Who's Who . . . but Holy Sh*t Batman . . . we don't have to give our age, do we?! . . . I mean I can only be 29, whoops . . . I mean 32, for so long!

I, of course, had to go back and read the "longest ID thread" . . . it was very interesting! But rs1971 you kind of left us wanting more . . . kind of like a season finale cliff hanger that turned into a series finale . . .

Where are the latter promised pictures that Lou sent . . .

Was it ever decided which Anthocorid it was . . .

Did you have to treat for the bug(s), or was that the only one you found . . .

It certainly was an interesting thread and fun game of "Stump the Experts"!!!

Thought this might be useful as a 'one stop' offerring the most basic simple actions required to deal with bed bugs. And yes, even not being familiar with blogs, blogging, threads, etc., I can tell it wasn't going to be up to specs manners wise to cut in like this-but only for the purpose of getting it out at all and it hopefully being evaluated and reblogged to where on the site it will be most useful-if it is thought to be useful among any of the site leaders. I have heard of reblogging but perhaps that is not common and doesn't happen here. I didn't want to simply add it to a blog/thread? that was years old where no one would see and benefit from it.

    Norm,

This is the forum part of the site not the blog.

If you look at the top where it says "Topic - add new" click that and cut and paste your information / questions and that starts a new thread for the discussion.

You may also find it easier to use the site if you read the FAQ's first, there is a lot of information already here that you will find useful.
