who will treat in D.C. if no bugs found?
(4 posts)-
I've been fighting this for several months and I'm willing to treat even though I haven't made a positive identification of a bug. I just need the peace of mind. But I can't find anyone in D.C./Northern Virginia who will treat without positive i.d. of a bedbug. Does anyone know of a PCO who will treat without a bug?

I know it's frustrating, but it's not a good idea to treat until you have conclusive proof of bed bugs. There are a number of other possible causes that produce bites that will feel and act like bed bug bites: bird mites, bat mites, carpet beetles, etc.
In today's pest control world, the exact treatment is geared toward the exact pest you have, and until you have clearly narrowed down what that pest is, you can't get appropriate treatment.
It might be helpful to focus on looking for a PCO in your area who has some ideas about passive monitors and inspection to help you get to the root of the problem in terms of exactly what pests you have. Finding a PCO with that level of expertise should also help increase the chances of getting effective treatment that works as quickly as possible.

I think having a bedbug dog in would give you peace of mind. This way you could positively confirm the bedbugs and their location. There are some PCOs that have a bedbug dog on staff and I'm sure you could pay a PCO for the bedbug dog visit without a positive i.d. of a bedbug first. It is expensive but worth it when you don't have visual sightings of bedbugs and need confirmation and treatment.
Another (very expensive) way to treat is heat treatment since heat treatment will kill all the bugs in your place., whether the bugs causing your problems are bedbugs or not. This might be the way to go if you find it cost effective. Who can put a value on peace of mind?

Based on what I read here, unfotunately lots of PCOs will treat without positive ID. Yet, BB treatmwnt when you don'T need it for peace of mind is like chemotherapy when you have no sign of cancer. What makes you so certain that what you have is BB? What are your symptoms? Have you investigated other causes? How about some conservative self treat options combined with continuous inspection?
