When I move, should I Packtite or Vikane?
(5 posts)-
I'm moving on October 1st, or within the vicinity there of. I do NOT have a lot of stuff, and I don't plan to keep this futon now, and if I do, it will be just the metal frame but definitely not the mattress.
Basically my moving haul will be fabric, clothing, a couple of shelving units and plastic tubs. That's all I really own that is currently in my infested studio.
Should I purchase a Packtite and bake everything as I go? How big is the unit?
Or should I just go for it, rent a trailer, throw everything in there and have The Big Blue Bug gas it for me?
I will have the money to spend courtesy of financial aid, and I don't know how much the Vikane and rental will cost...A Packtite will be more economical, but I'm still thinking if I should "Nuke it from orbit, just to be sure" so to speak.
Thoughts?

anyone who quotes aliens gets a response from me. I make the packtite so I won't comment along those lines as my response will be as expected.
But to further the aliens thread a question for you,
This move you are considering, "Is this going to be a stand-up fight or just another bug hunt?"
(only appropriate aliens quote that would come to me at this hour though I thought of, "won't you put her in charge?" as well) -
Believe it or not, my bug experience is making my next apartment choice more stringent. No carpets, no crevices, no shady neighborhoods just to get out of the vile clutches of evil roommates...Which leaves me with the option of moving closer to the universities.
I'm actually leaning more toward the Packtite, btw...more for cost effectiveness. I'm sure the Vikane could kick ass, but I do have bills to pay. Lol.

I am a huge fan of Vikane gas fumigation.
You won't need to replace your possessions or futon mattress... which may save some cash.
Gassing a rental truck is 99.9% effective, but can be rather expensive
Some fumigators provide a reasonable guarantee for their work.
Perhaps you can find someone to share the truck or a storage pod and split the cost
The main limitation of the Packtite is the size... A PackTite and steam machine may be more cost effective.. If you want to try the D-I-Y approach.
Consider having a reliable K9 team sweep your future residence to screen for a pre-existing infestation.

If I were moving and had the money, I would do all the above:
First, get a rental truck company that also Vikanes, and gas my stuff.
Second, rent out a BB sniffing dog to check out the new place before I move my stuff in.
Third, PackTite everything as it came in.
I would do this all naked too, just to make sure none came with me.
you can never be too careful, but if i had to choose 1 it would be the vikane. HOWEVER, I would still eventually get a PackTite JUST IN CASE.
