What if I packed away bedbugs in my sealed bags?
(7 posts)-
Is there something I can put in those sealed bags- like some spray/poison bits/teatreeoil spray to kill any existing bugs/eggs in those bags, just in case I accidentally packed away some?
Also, since the exterminators didn't handle my bags properly - they dragged them on the floor, lifted them up, causing some of them to tear and me scurrying around trying to tape them (they didn't seem concerned), I am extra interested on how I can re-clean the items in those bags without reinfesting my apt....

If the Packtite is within your budget, that might be a useful tool. You can put whole sealed bags into the Packtite and cook any bugs or eggs that are in there. Unlike laundromats which charge per use, once you have the Packtite, you can use it as much as you like.
Using chemical pesticides to treat fabric items is not a good idea, esp. since other methods are available. Some pesticides leave a residue on the clothes, which could then be absorbed through your skin.

Thanks Buggyinsocal for your reply. I'll do some more research on a Packtite although I think it might be more than I can afford...I wonder if there are used Packtites around on craigslist or something, from ex bedbug victims who have gone on to live bb-free lives... though, would that be safe?? ^_^

One can put plastic ziploc type bags into packtite without them melting?

Yes, people have done this. It's described in some of the other threads here:

Can you put books or papers in the packtite? Or, is there another way to recover your books if you think they may be contaminated?

People have put books into their Packtites. I know $300 up front is a lot of money, but you might want to do the math about what it would cost you to dry clean things and what it would cost to you treat your books another way. For what I paid for plastic bins and DDVP strips for my DVDs and CDs alone, I would have come close to the cost of a Packtite, which has the advantage of being able to be used over and over again.
(I wouldn't personally put DVDs or CDs into the Packtite myself since the PCOs told me to take them out of the house for thermal treatment. I would absolutely use the Packtite for books, but since my apartment was treated thermally, I didn't have to worry about the books.)
