Perhaps, I am the only one here who can find great silver linings in this entire mess.. Perhaps that has alot to do with me not being like many people out there who live on a fixed income and are casualties of the economic system and have no choice but to live in a dwelling that becomes increasingly worse....

Anyhow, I learned that I am really tired of living my life with fear, and uncertainty. That I am always thinking I can relax and be okay when such and such happens 3 or 4 months into the future. This is a false belief. We have to live for the present and not invest our entire time and energy into things which fall under a law of diminishing returns.

I learned that our society is entirely too materialistic, and this is but one thing that has mainfested itself on earth to teach us that. Love, experience, growth and transformation.. these things are to be valued.. but when we are into ourselves and define our lives so stringently by what we own, problems will develop.

I learned just to what degree the governments of the world have let us fall by the wayside as they leave us for dead. All this money they accumulate through our actions is only to help keep up the repuations of their clubs (countries) and we are merely the tools they use to do that. They take the best pictures, the best angles, the best spin to sell the greatness of a nation and ignore the tragedies and widespread suffering of the actual people living day to day.. because it doesn't fit in with the "storyline" they are trying to peddle to the world, to themselves and even to us (through media, commercials, etc).

As we lose more of the way of life we knew, and we are losing it make no mistake about that, it is beginning to usher in a new age that we can only welcome because of the greater values i hope are coming for us all very, very soon.

You always hear about that tunnel and white light that people see when they have a near-death experience.. and the wisdom and insight those people have when they recover. They can never live life the same. These are beautiful stories.. and I urge those of you suffering out there to remember that this too shall pass.. it's an experience we go through in this dimension but our directions are our responsibility and we DO have power yet. It may seem so real, but this pain and despair is just like a trick.. a hologram.. and if we were able to really understand this world in its grandness we would see it will all be okay because it always was.

Taught me how insidious they are. How widespread they are. There are dogs that sniff them. How they can grip a person's mind. Trigger invisible itching. I can't read your whole comment but these are a couple things I learned for starters.

I've learned that one of the most underrated assets in a person's life is the ability to store your clothes in a closet. Your books on shelves. Toys in the toy chest. Etc.

I've learned that a tiny little insect can make you change your plans and priorities, which is in itself a lesson on humility.

That life sometimes presents you with some pretty unexpected changes and challenges and that the best you can do it dance to the tune, without losing your mind.

    thanks so much

i think if i lived in a huge infestation, i would not be posting this right now..

but basically, as big a nightmare as it's been, i am blown away by the fact that all these
things i go through in my life has made me SO STRONG. I need this to boost my confidence
and feel like I am getting to a point where the strength I have amassed overshadows the
things that happen to me, and that's pretty incredible.

Beautiful post, blazing. Thanks for the reminder, especially the last line. I might have to write that on a post-it note and stick it somewhere. :)

Living with bedbugs has taught me the tragic nature of the world. It is the dark side. The side we don't see in TV commercials about a golden old age when you plan well for retirement! Its the side we don't see when we hear about the great hopes for stem cell research with which impossible diseases will be eradicated. Let them work on those diseases. But why don't they care that we are being eaten alive by bbs? Do we want to live in a world so split off from reality that they will find a cure for Alzheimer's at about the same time people lose their indoor plumbing? Because that's where we are headed. The return of the bed bug may be a precursor to the return of the chamber pot and all the squalor that would entail.

To sum it up quite eloquently, much like blazing did, having bed bugs has above all taught me how much I had previously taken [what seemed like] the most insignificant facets of my everyday for granted. Consequentially, I would say I am not necessarily living my day-to-day life more vicariously, but rather, enjoying each day as it comes in its entirety. In some ways, I might even argue that it's been an "eyeopening experience," to say the least.
Overall, the biggest loss (among many, I might add), is the ability to dream. Since finding them, even though I am able to sleep through the night now, I don't find myself sleeping the same way, and the lack of dreams is rather upsetting, where going to bed used to be a rather nice experience, it is now more of a jilted routine which is unrewarding and dissatisfying.
I tip my hat to blazing.

What has living with bedbugs taught me? I've learned not to tell medical providers I have bedbugs. I've been denied medical care by two medical professionals so far solely because I have bedbugs--including not being allowed to undergo a study at a sleep health center (which should be educated about bedbugs when they have patients sleeping there night after night and even encourage their patients to bring their bedding and pillows from home with them).

Parakeets, that is a joke isn't it? The pure hypocracy of it. The pure denial. Because those that make those with bbs pariahs, statistically many must have bbs ,themselves!
