What do bed bug feces look like on non-fabric surfaces?

   My roommate found several small black specks on top of her wooden dresser and we are wondering if they may be bed bug feces. They are round-ish, not flat, and black. They are about the size of poppy seeds. and look kind of like grains of soil.

   I've seen many pictures of the fabric stains, but what do they look like when they're not on fabric?
