Hi Raging, I used Chemfree Insectigone Crawling Insect Killer which contains 80% amorphous diatomaceous earth with success. However, I did not just spread the dust, as most people do. I made a mixture of diatomaceous earth, liquid soap, ethyl alcohol, and water, following the proportions written in an article by an entomologist. It has worked very well for me.

If you like, you can read my post in Success Stories which is titled Four Months Bite Free - Steps Taken.

It is now 7 months and I have not seem to be bedbug free. I say seem to be because though I do not see any bugs, including on the double-sided carpet tape that I have put in various places, and I do not get the type of intense burning, itching bites I used to get, initially from the bugs, I have very occasionally discovered what could be a bite or bump but it has not itched or burned like before.

I suffer from urticaria brought on by stress so I am hoping that these little bumps or pimples are a result of the urticaria. Last week, I started freaking out because I got what seemed like an actual bite on my arm while working at my PC and I had never been bitten by a bug while working at my PC even during the infestation, since I had treated the desk and sprayed the entire area around it. However, the bite may have been from a spider (I caught and killed a spider near my desk, recently) or dust mite or something (I hope and pray) because it was not the typical bite I used to get from the bugs and I did not react in the way I used to. To be safe rather than sorry, I made another batch of the mixture and re-sprayed the underside of the desk and around it. So far, so good.

    Hope this helps.

I believe that kitty litter does contain a little of DE in it to absorb the moisture, but it is not strong enough to kill insects/bed bugs.

What is the purpose of the soap in the mixture listed?

DE + the alcohol seems like a great spray; as long as the DE doesn't completely dissolve, it should be a good delivery method for the dust over a good range with good distribution; the alcohol evaporates, leaving traces of the DE behind.

I managed to find a place where I can get DE in Australia so I will have some next week, I need to get the ethyl alcohol and then I'm set, can you point me towards the article by the entomologist please?

Also where (what type of business) does one purchase ethyl alcohol?

Ethyl alcohol is just another term for alcohol. You can probably use vodka or something of that sort, either that or buy rubbing alcohol. I also ordered some DE, since I saw alot of brands online, I'm sure they all works the same right? Hopefully it works.

I went and collected my DE today but obviously did NOT do my research as thoroughly as I should have (or rather just read it wrongly) when I got the container home and undid it it is a liquid (20 litres that cost me almost $100!) the link below will show what it is:
    http://www.nutri-tech.com.au/products/mms/dia-life.html

the liquid is like a thin mud, I'm wondering if I was to mix it up with water and spray it would it be any good, it would probably make one hell of a mess, but I might see what it looks like in a corner of the carpet, we don't really care what happens to the carpet/walls etc as we are moving in about a month and demolishing the house to rebuild, we just don't want to take these rotters with us to our rental property!
