Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Uncategorized
Went to M&M in NYC today, helped the paranoia...
(5 posts)-
I took my found collection of bugs to M&M today, i pretty much knew none of them were BB, but wanted to make sure none of them were biting me also. My story is here.
He confirmed, no BB from all the beetles and salt-like specs i have collected in various parts of my apartment. There was also another person there inspecting what they thought might be a flea. It wasn't, it was like a mosquito (the name escapes me) but more specifically found near beaches and swamps, an awkward flier that was perceived to be jumping from the cat box. The person had bites so i understand the reason for the visit.
Had i done this 8 weeks ago i might know if i have them or not and spent relativley the same amount of money and surely less time.
The PCO we spoke to was very knowledgeable, they knew what i was talking about with the questions i asked, was able to tell me about all the insecticides i'd researched and what they can do for BB.
They said Suspend, the main chemical i've used to self-treat, and a repellent can cause BB to spread, but could be good to prevent being infested from adjacent sources. I didn't do enough research, so if there was an infestation, it is probably worse now.
I've been self treating and learned that if your paranoid, get monitors, keep doing the research and asking questions and the best answer is usually to get professional advice, and do the best you can to find evidence and stay sane.
Being in NYC i'd decided that i will be living differently while i am here, cautious with clothing and personal items being exposed inside and outside of where i live. Finding an apartment that is well renovated and not cracking open at every seem.
Tomorrow i am going back to M&M for a protect-a-bed cover and finding a certified dog/handler team that does an inspection to notified areas. I've asked about self-treatment but no one wants to give direct advice because even the pros don't know your situation w/out seeing it... and thats what you pay them for

many bites this morning, i am going to call a K-9, if there's good dog/handler here in NYC please recommend! Either PM me or post! (i want someone who will inspect "hit" areas)

I have to say, it is quite common to find lots of other things besides bed bugs, and not bed bugs.
I am not saying you have them, but there's no proof you don't.

Thanks nobugs,
Is there good K9 unit you can reccomend, even through PM?

I went back to M&M to buy a Protect-a-bed encasement and spoke again to the same PCO. He took a closer examination to similar bites on my arm. They were very small, and many of them almost like a rash (not like my experience with BB in the past). Under magnification he could see what he looked like a puncture wound.
I told him how i remember the first bite being a hardish bump in my stomach that lasted a long time, and he told me to research mouse mites. That they can transmit a bacterial disease that many first bitten can receive. It can come with a hard bump/scab and light fever, which passes when the body builds antibodies. The only way to check for it is through a blood test for the antibodies.
After jogging my memory, during one of my inspections i remembered finding tiny little white bugs near a windowsill, most of them in a bowl made from coconut wood, near a pipe connected vertically to the ceiling with a large access hole (since then it has been filled in). By the time i could get a good look at them they were scared away and after a small bite-like thing showed up near my nose. It faded quickly and i dismissed it foolishly, convinced of BB.
Does this sound like mites to anyone else? What do the PCOs think? I can't find much info on mouse mites, but i think this is a logical explanation to my problem. Still not completely convinced, but it does help ease the paranoia. Any thoughts or links to mouse mite info would be greatly appreciated.
