Hello - it's been a long time since I have posted here. Our bed bug nightmare started last summer, and since then, we have moved on with our lives. It's been one hell of a year for us. We moved from San Francisco to Philly to be with my terminally ill mother-in-law, got bed bugs (most likely from a trip my husband took) and rat mites (from my husband's office). We had to leave our home for several weeks, primarily due to the mites. On a positive note, while my mother-in-law will never be cured, her doctor said she will live many years and with a quality of life with her cancer. Fast forward to today, and we have returned to San Francisco. With our move, we chose not to bring anything with us and are starting over completely - new home, new clothes, new furniture, new everything. It's a new beginning for us. We were a little sad to lose so much of our stuff, but in the end, it's just stuff. We've learned to live with less and appreciate each other more. We have a new level of respect for nature and how our infestations, at times, seemed like they would destroy our lives. While our decision to start over might have been on the extreme side, it has finally brought us a sense of relief. I can now sleep through the night without fear, but I will always inspect anything new brought to my home, hotel room, luggage, restaurant table and chair, etc. (the list is endless). I am so glad to hear your mother-in-law's prognosis is positive and that you have moved on from your pest problems.
