I have decided to vikane. I have thought out many options, including packtite and DE and praying. Vikane is my best shot right? I am hoping to vikane my pick up truck with some items in it. $800. Am selling my lap top; it's worth it, right?

Is this my best shot moving to a new place? Is thermal better and a comparable price?

I also may purchase a packtite when able as I will now be using the public library (I plan to sit on the wooden chairs there not the upholstered ones). It was either my truck or lap top to go, and it's going to be the lap top.

Ok, so I know they will tell me, but I can pack the back with books and stuff and be ok, right? It'll work, eh? I mean the books may still be significantly infested with eggs and nymphs, who knows. Is vikane 100% effective? What's the percentage success rate when vikaning to move? Even on clothes?

I am giving up my computer for this, so any assurance will be nice.

    thanks-
    Amy

Vikane is extremely effective... a minimum 3x treatment will kill all life stages of bed bugs including eggs

The effectiveness is close to 100% ... pack your books loosely and don't utilize any type of airtight container or plastic bags to hold your contents.

I am really sorry to hear that you are losing your laptop... Vikane gas fumigation should allow you to save everything else.

Fumigation will be very effective for your clothing.... Paper serves as insulation which can be an issue for thermal treatment... while Vikane gas will penetrate the books to any kill any bed bugs or eggs.

    thanks Doug,

will it be dangerous to me in terms of pesticide issues? I have chronic lung problems and chemical sensitivity. I am just worried about driving my truck after it is treated the hour and a half it will take to get home.

    thanks-
    Amy

    Amy,

    You should be okay.

Vikane is aired out thoroughly... A chemical irritant that is added to the gas for safety during the fumigation is more likely to be the issue for you.... Talk with your PCO about it... Roll the windows down for fresh air during the return trip.

    Doug,

What would be the effectiveness of one treatment? Like Beth, I am going to Vikane my vehicle, and the PCO company I chose has repeatedly emphasized that it's 100% effective for one time, although I think that's just their pitch. I'm skeptical that it would be that effective after one treatment, but I don't have the money to shell out for an additional 2 treatments.
The PCO lady also said the cardboard boxes can be packed 100% but I feel like packing the boxes too tightly decreases the airflow for the gas to travel through. Is it safe to fully pack the boxes?

Amy-- good luck on your end!! For some reason the PCO company said leaving my laptop in the van to be Vikaned would be safe... I really can't bear to leave it as I don't have the money to buy another one so I'm trusting that I can treat it either through Vikane or some other way!

    Cctie,

One treatment will kill all stages of bed bugs including eggs.

The gas will penetrate into cardboard boxes and contents.

It is unlikely that you will need any additional treatment for any thing that is packed into the truck.

You can rely on the fact that Vikane gas is 99.9% effective for killing bed bugs and eggs in one treatment.

Thanks Doug. My PCO said it's only as effective as how closely you follow preparation protocol... Even though the sales pitch for him and his team is to tout it as 100% effective after one treatment, he said last night, in a bout of honesty, that there have been previous clients who still ended up with BB after Vikane treatments of a moving car. He blamed it on them packing everything too tight, and packing the car too full. So even he is now changing his company policy about treating vehicles with items inside to try to prevent this. I'm going to try to pack as loosely as I can between the boxes, and poke holes in them (probably poke them at their facility... not while I'm at my apartment). Hopefully this provides enough airflow.
