i am very confused with all these information about bed bugs. Just seven nights ago i was at a hotel where i found a few good bed bugs crawling over me and coming out of nowhere from the sheets very late at night while i was still reading on my computer. i havent seen any signs of bitting on my body, though i do have itching sensations all over. I told the hotel reception and they put a heater in the room for very many hours. All my luggage and clothes where in the room with the exception of what i wore that morning before i left the hotel. Now, i am completely uncertain if those bed bugs i brought in with me to the hotel -even though i've never had these experience before, or if i just found them at the hotel and now i carry them with me. I am completely confused about the symptoms, and also on confirming if i am carrying them with me or not. I am freaking out if i am carrying them since i am traveling at the moment and i wouldn't be able to take a proper and continuous approach on eliminating them. And not only that but i am supposed to be exchanging with a lot of people on this trip.
Please any help or advice would be immensely appreciated -
Hi,
First things first knowledge and understanding is the most important thing so invest the time to read and understand and you cant go too far wrong.
OK before you get home either pick up a cheap set of clothes and some bags you can seal.
If you cant stop before you get home, change the set of clothes for the new ones and seal everything else luggage wise into the bags or when you walk into your home go straight to the bathroom and stand in the bath and change and seal everything.
Once sealed you need to inspect you home to make sure its not a pre existing condition that you have traveled with. If its not then the luggage and items are safely sealed until you can review your options and deal with them. If the home is an issue you will have read the FAQ's and can asses the options.
The FAQ's will also explain what options you have for dealing with the sealed items and depending upon where you are what your budget is there are several options from services to personal decontamination via the PackTite.
It is also however important that you learn to check hotel rooms and thus avoid exposure to bedbugs when you travel. Again there is information on looking for:
- Live samples
- Cast skins
- Faecal traces
within the FAQ's and there is a video on how this can be done here http://www.bedbugbeware.com/traveltips.html .
Ideally if you have more stops before you get home you should check your items by placing then in the bath and having a good close inspection. It is unfortunately highly unlikely that heating a hotel room would be effective if either they used only a conductive heating source and or did not use monitoring probes to ensure it was an efficient process. Without knowing more details I could not be certain but from what I read in your message it does not sound like it was done correctly.
Hope that helps give you some structure and pointers.

Bed Bugs Limited -
thanks a lot David for your reply. i've read plenty regarding how to get rid of bed bugs in the house; nevertheless, i am still not clear on how to get the symptoms out of my body. even though i do not see a physical bite sign on my body, i am itching all over (even in my head and in my private parts), and that's what i dont understand clearly what the measures are to get rid of it. I find quite unlikely that if i ran into all those bed bugs at the hotel, that they didnt infect me
....this is truly emotionally devastating. i am afraid of meeting people fearing i will infect them. Needless to say my two little nieces i am afraid of meeting them until i know i might be clear of this issue.

Hi,
Sorry but the time it takes for the symptoms to subside is related to your immune systems, stress level, environment and many other individual factors. As such its impossible to say but if you follow the steps outlined above you will be able to minimise the risks of passing the problem on to others.
