I have a great little vacuum that I love. I've been using it to help with the BB problem in my apartment. I discard the bag after each use and I spray it down with alchohol. I'm moving next week and I want to take it but not sure if it's too risky. I'm having a Vikane treatment wiht everything I'm moving, do I put that in? Will it be effective since the vacuum is plastic? Should I Packtite it instead? Or should I just trash it?

I would not try to Vikane it - however - the vikane will not penetrate the plastic

I put my small canister vacuum into the packtite and it was fine afterwards

I know that Dave james & company says that they don't recommend any sort of electronic or electrical equipment but you may want to try it and see - if you do try it - you will do so at your own risk knowing that it may not work afterwards

(mine worked fine afterwards - but in this case try it and see if it will help instead of throwing it out)

I also have a great canister vac, indestructible, have had it for years. Don't want to junk it. My guy from K9-Action gave me several pieces of advice:

    - keep a flea collar inside the vac (I said: wouldn't they just run out? he said: no, they'll die); new flea collar for each new vac bag

    - throw out the vac bag every time you use it (I amended this by taping over all the holes in between uses if it was only going to be a day or two; otherwise I throw out the bag)

    - he sprayed inside the vac & tube both times he was here

Sounds like you might be past the exterminator stage but you might have good results with bleach. I bought a spray bleach which I use on plastic stuff (like the electric fan I keep in the window by my bed) and it wipes out anything without damaging the plastic. Maybe you could spray inside/outside the tube and/or blast it with the garden house?

    just ideas
    best of luck

We did structural fumigation on our house two years ago this fall. I purchased a new canister vacuum after about 4 traditional treatments and about a month before the vikane fumigation.

What we did was take off the hose attachment on both ends, open the vacuum up and just layed in the middle of the family room floor. I realize that doing a fumigation in a moving truck is defferent, but I thought I would tell you what we did in case this was an option of you. I still have and use the same vacuum today.
