Unpacking after quarantine
(8 posts)-
How long do you all wait to unpack after treatments? I had my first treatment two weeks ago and I've had no bites since (knock on wood). I'm having my second and final treatment in two weeks. How long after my final treatment should I wait before emptying my bags and putting clothes back in my closet and drawers? I'm worried I will settle back in and they will reappear.

I know I was told by my PCO to wait a few weeks after treatment. (They're coming back tomorrow for our second treatment) Living out of bags makes you appreciate the small things... like stuff on shelves and one's wardrobe. :D
I understand the concern. My roommate and I have SO MUCH stuff and it's hard to clean the house around all these bags and such, but I'm desperate not to unpack too early and have a problem. Though I'm also worried we missed ONE BUG somewhere in a bag, and we'll just unpack the problem again. Thankfully our PCO offers re-treatments in that case.

I kept wanting to unpack but ended up waiting about 90 days after second treatment before I did, so I lived in bags about 4 months..yuck. I finally started putting plastic bags into storage tubs, it kept them from sliding everywhere. Living in bags is hard, I know all to well...I hope you are free soon.

I really don't think I'll make 90 days. I'm struggling to get my roommate to agree to longer than a month. I'm pushing for a month after the second treatment, and she will. not. do. it. We're probably lucky, though, because our infestation was SO small. We never saw a single bug, and I was only bitten twice in two-three weeks that we can tell. Because it was a friend who gave it to us (99% certain), we knew what we were dealing with early on. At least I did. Getting her onboard was a huge hassle in the first place. So hopefully if she unpacks early, we'll be lucky.

Not everyone stays bagged for a long time, and it really depends on your situation. For example your small infestation, caught early and if no neighbors are infected you should be fine. However, if you have a neighbor who is infected, well that could be a problem.
I had a tiny infestation also, never saw a bug, only found a couple of faecal traces and combined with the dr saying it was bed bug bites proceeded to get treated. I am sure I could have unpacked earlier, i was just paranoid. I hope you are on the road to recovery. :) (bags really are a pain, aren't they?)

Ugh. I've been in bags since the beginning of December. I hate it, but I'm also super scared that I'll unpack, start seeing bugs again, and then just have to treat and re-pack everything. I did, however, see bugs, which is why I'm still holding out and not unpacking. The only way I've managed to deal with the bags is to try to organize my clothes into "types" so that it's easier to find stuff in the morning when getting dressed for work!

I just mostly miss walking easily through my house, really. And this whole ordeal has really made me appreciate the little things. Like my full wardrobe. Things on shelves. Etc. :P
The only bug we've seen is a dead one we found last night while prepping for our second spray. But until I stop worrying about potential bites (and I might have one on my back), we stay packed in bags for a duration. Sigh.

After my 2nd treatment my PCo said I could put my bags into my drawers. It's kind of like living out of your drawers, but with bags. It has made my life a little nicer not tripping over everything in my other rooms. But then on the other hand, I am still getting bitten.
