Hey, i was just wondering about bedbugs related to travelling...

Well basically, ive delayed getting treated again until August

    Why?

because i will be travelling on some voluntary work experience to the Dominican Republic...and im scared that if i have the house treated at the moment and i go there and come back....that i might get them again...

So far ive been in stress for about 2months over this and getting bitten...and i hate it..

What are ur thoughts? should i get the house treated now or what?

please some1 give me advice i rly dont know what to do :S

Post coincided with the video going up.

I just addressed the topic. Bottom line is inspections and handling your stuff properly when you get home.

Are you leaving for the trip in August? Or are you departing earlier and going to be away for a couple of months?

It's just the beginning of June, then there's all of July. That's a lot of weeks of bedbugs potentially breeding and increasing their numbers exponentially. More bedbugs increases the risk you'll be taking some of these bedbugs with you on your trip.

You can take precautions that will protect you from bringing bedbugs back from the Dominican Republic. Although, it's possible (maybe even probable) that there aren't bedbugs at your destination. Traveling doesn't automatically mean you'll be exposed to bedbugs. You just have to be aware of the risk and protect yourself accordingly.

You can also take steps to keep any hitchhikers from your house accompanying you on your trip.

IMO, unless you're leaving for your trip in the near future - like within a week - this isn't a compelling reason to delay treatment.

I was planning to start treatment then... because i was scared that i might bring some back from there (domician republic)

So theres exactly a month till i go...

What do u think i should do? start treatment now?

    BeenBitten,

These a$s4ole parastie bugs are biting you. They're feeding off of you. Why give them 30 more days to increase in numbers? Annihilate them already.

Do you have a PCO in mind to hire? Do you have information about this volunteer spot that there are in fact bedbugs there? Is that part of why you're postponing treatment?

    Reasons to start treatment now:

    - reduce bedbug population
    - reduce bites
    - reduce risk that you'll carry bedbugs with you to the Dom. Rep.
    - reduce risk that bedbugs will spread within your community

There are things you can do to prevent bedbugs (if there are any) from following you back from your trip.

You may be doing things now - like visiting public locations, going to work - that could potentially expose you to bedbugs. But those aren't good enough reasons to delay treatment either.

    Hey,

I just checked out some of your old posts and see that:

1/ you're 18 yo. I didn't realize you were so young in your adulthood. I have to give you props for thinking & trying to solve this problem. I doubt I could've handled all this when I was 18.

2/ you're thinking of hiring David Cain's company. That's great that you've got access to a knowledgeable PCO.

Good luck, beenbitten. Get this bedbug thing sorted out, and have a great trip to the DR.

Begin eradacation immediately, the bugs will patiently await your return and be VERY hungry when you come home. God help your neighbors if you live in an apartment.

nah i live in a house... but while im gone there'll still be 4 of my family members left in the house so i didnt think it would make a difference.

Anyway, ok im on it i will call up tommorow :)

And btw....i know this is a bit offtopic but are there any major risks with treating? because insectiside on a bed doesn't sound too cosy.. :S

As for the bed: Responsible PCOs are very careful about what they use where. There are pesticides that are specifically "labeled" for use on bed and other upholstered furniture. What "labeled" means is that whatever governmental body oversees pesticide use in the UK has tested those pesticides and declared them safe for that particular use. David's firm is a good one with a very experienced bed bug fighter at the helm--a person who cares a lot about only hiring people who are determined to get rid of the bugs.

Some PCOs might not treat the bed that way. Some use other methods like steam. Since I'm 6000 miles away, I don't know what approach your PCO takes. But you can certainly ask about that when you call.

As for the other, I do think, esp. since there are other people in your home, treating before you go is the best option. If you wait that long, you're going to have a much larger and more entrenched infestation when you get back if you don't, and you don't want bigger and more stubborn infestations to deal with. In addition, the other members in your family will suffer while you're away. The bugs will begin to bother them instead of you, and that's no good.
