Traveling tomorrow- have questions about Bed Bugs
(4 posts)-
Ok, so I've discovered last week that I have bedbugs. I soon noticed after a trip to Texas that I had a few bites on me. I passed it off at mosquito bites for about 2 weeks, even though I thought it was odd that the bites were next to each other in lines. Even thought it could be fleas, but my dogs had none on them. After noticing blood on my fiance's side of the bed, I knew something wasn't right b/c he had no bites on him, and no where to be bleeding from. I ended up tearing all the bedding apart and found 2 bedbugs on my side of the bed; this was last Monday (3 weeks after traveling to Texas).
So after spending countless hours reading about these nasty little creatures, I've done several things so far. I cleared out my bedroom of any linens, washed them in hot water and dried them. I put all of the linens in a different bedroom that is clear of bedbugs (at least I think). I took my bed apart, and found where the bugs were nesting, mainly on the netting under the foundation(box spring). I vacuumed it and sprayed Good Night, which has not worked as of yet. (I emailed Sprayway, and was told it has a 5 day residual; well today is day 7 and they still haven't died, at least from that).
I bought an encasement from Target for my matress and foundation. After putting my bed back together, I have found a new place where the bugs are hiding and nesting. I have wooden slats that are screwed into my frame. They are hiding where the screw goes into the wood. I have found that spraying alchol on them has killed them instantly, which has been wonderful. I am finding 1-2 bugs a day, and this is with checking at 2 a.m., and 6 a.m.. Is it possible that I have a bigger infestation than I think? I have been vacuuming every day, in hopes of eliminating any new bugs. I have been spraying alcohol on my floor and bed for the ones that I don't see. I have DARK BROWN CARPET!! :( I spray where the baseboards and carpet meet in case they are hiding in there. I have ordered Diatect Results, and that should be in tomorrow. I also ordered a wet steamer as well. I cannot afford a dry steamer right now.
Another question I have is: I am leaving tomorrow morning for another trip to Dallas (Boy I don't want to go). I am staying at a different hotel first of all. Are there any precautions anyone can give me for packing? So far, I have sprayed my bag w/ Good Night (which I don't have much faith in), and sprayed the entire bag w/ alcohol last night, inside and out. I've taken my clothes, which are hopefully bug free, and put them in a ziplock bag, and will put them inside of my suitcase.
I am like other people here. I am completely paranoid now. I get up in the midddle of the night w/ my flashlight searching for the critters.
I work from home, in a separate room, but I hadn't found any bugs in that room. I see a few black dots on the mattress in that room, but no bugs present. Are there any recommendations anyone can give me that I hadn't done yet? I am leaving it up to my fiance to put the Diatect down tomorrow when it comes in. I talked to my PCO earlier last week, and he said it sounded like I was headed in the right direction, and to try to control it on my own first b/c it can be very costly if his company has to come in to do it. I don't have $1000 to spend on a PCO, and it doesn't work.
The more I think about it, I could have gotten these things from anywhere. TSA checked my bag, so I could have gotten it there. Or I could have gotten it at The Hilton where I stayed, or the airplane.... I just cannot believe I would have gotten it from there, but from everyone says, it's possible to get them from ANY HOTEL. My boss stayed 2 rooms down from me, and he didn't get them. -
I'm at work right now and can't take calls till after 10:30PM. I'm guessing you are in LA based on your screen name. But if you would like to talk with me you can call me at like 11PM NY time and I could help you with some info. If you would like call me @ 516-481-7378 11PM NY time.

I could be wrong but that seems like a lot of bugs to find that soon after infestation. But maybe not if a few got in your bag.
My husband also got bed bugs from a business trip to a nice hotel. (We're pretty sure.) Now on business trips I have him use a XXL Ziploc (or 55 gallon drum liner, twisted and twist tied at the top if the suitcase is big) around his suitcase while it's in the office. I also send an XL Ziploc for his computer bag, I ask him to only charge it at the office where he's at. I send XL Ziploc's for his dirty clothes. If you have one bag for each color of laundry then you can just dump them into the laundry when you get home. You won't have to sort when they get home. Before I noticed the 55 gallon drum liners for the bigger suitcase, I made him store his suitcase in the bath tub in the hotel. (I bet the maid got a kick out of that one.)
That's what makes us feel safe.
There are a couple of threads of people that used Diatect successfully, it just seems like you have to follow the directions really carefully and be really proactive. Good luck on treatment.

OOps I meant "around his suitcase while it's in the hotel".
