traveling: does one bug mean more bugs?

   So I am in NY on business staying with a friend, I was there for 2 weeks. I was getting bitten by bugs at night. the window was open and i figured it was mosquitos. It wasn't. The bites are definitely from bed bugs. I left my friends three days ago and checked into a hotel, washed all my clothes and bagged my suitcase. Then, Riding the train today, I SAW A BED BUG ON MY BACKPACK and killed it.

   Question : if i found this one bug, is it possible it was the only one, or are there eggs and bugs all up in my gear now.
