    hi there,

first of all this is a great forum and website.
its full of great information and yet the subject is so broad im still constantly confused.
especially since the subject kind of makes you spiral into insanity.
    anyhow.

im going to tell my situation and then leave my questions. i really hope for some good advice.

i am traveling in central america and im pretty sure i was struck with a case of bed bugs.
at first bites a few on the back of my knees that i attributed to the mosuitos who were also biting me. but then one night i saw a small bug in the bed and freaked out. im not sure now it was a bed bug as i killed it to fast. the next day i looked in the mirror and it looked like i had been destroyed by bug bites.

the back of my knees all over my inner thighs.
a few on my arms, rows on my torso under the armpit.
    some beneath by pectorals...
some just on the small of my back or anywhere for that matter.
even in the place that shall not be mentioned. this is enough to make any grown man nearly faint.

    so...

i grabbed all my belongs and sorted through everything.

i took all my clothes to a laundry place that had machines to use hot water and a hot dryer.

I even brought them my duffel bag and the cavas bags that cary my toiletries etc.
my laptop protective sleeve as well.
even my converse were washed and dried.

i had a few items that were not able to be washed so i microwaved them.
a cashmere sweater, some books. everything was safe post microwave. one book a bit floppier.

    and i moved.

i bought some ointments, and found a health food store that sold tea tree oil and natural coconut oil, and have been applying regularly.

the oils really seem to be healing some of the older bites quiet fast, but im still finding them.

now i know that its been said on the internet that bites can develop as late as 9 days later.
    is this true.
if im noticing bites should i still be concerned or could they be from a few days back.

that being said how am i to know where this even happened, and does it matter?
    was i carrying them?
how am i supposed to know.

and will all the washing have helped?
    does the mocrowaving work?

i also am wondering if somehow they could have gotten into my laptop?
    how would i find out?

im traveling for a while longer and dont want this to be constant issue.
i cant stop thinking about it.

    also. could it be scabies?
    or worst of all.
    both?

Well...yes to many of your questions.

But, first you have to figure out what you have. Can you see a doctor while traveling?

You should isolate ALL of your stuff before you go home in large, sealed plastic (ziplocs?) bags..even the duffle. You could reheat treat everything before you go too. I'm not sure a microwave works so you can hand inspect the items that don't get heat treated.

There is a lot of great info on this site about isolating items and what to do when you travel. Please read the FAQs and some of the other posts via the forum search.

    well.

i feel like the washing and drying of EVERYTHING should have helped, no?
i feel slightly confident that i left without any of them in the luggage or clothes
thats is if washing and drying even does the trick? advice?

the only think i know i couldnt have checked is in the laptop.

i just dont know how im supposed to know?

of course on my return home i'll rewash and dry everything before leaving and then do it again upon my arrival.

but im traveling for a month and would like to know now that im not carrying these guys everywhere i go?
