Travel advice: stay in hotel with known prior issues, or B&B with limited info?
(1 post)-
I am going to be traveling this weekend and just saw four tripadvisor reviews mentioning bedbugs at the large chain hotel I am going to be staying at. The four reports are all from July through November 2010. I called the hotel about them and was told that "if" they ever have an issue, they call a company called Ecolab to inspect the room, and that they do periodic inspections. I'm nervous to stay at this hotel.
I did some more research and I found a bed and breakfast with uniformly excellent reviews, and they have availability. I am considering staying there, but part of me wonders if it might be more dangerous than staying at a hotel--if a B&B gets bed bugs I have to imagine it is more difficult to get rid of (they don't have the same funding as a large hotel), and I know inspecting the room will be more difficult because they will have more furniture and nooks and crannies for things to hide in.
If this were you choice, what would you decide? I will keep my luggage in the bathroom in an XXL ziploc, and I can Packtite everything when I get home, but I would still rather avoid staying in a room with bedbugs to begin with (I am always afraid that there will be a small pocket of coolness when I Packtite, and that something will slip through the cracks). I think back to the days before I knew about bed bugs and was excited to travel and stay in a hotel. Sigh.
