Tiny red bugs near bed & smear?

Hello all. I recently purchased a box spring from a local furniture shop, and have noticed tiny red bugs near my pillow! (2 to be exact). I also woke up to find a long reddish-brown smear near what appeared to be an insect casing but not sure. Note I have no bites or itchiness on me whatsoever. I JUST moved to my apartment a month ago & am freaking out about this! Do these sound like signs of bedbugs, and do I mention yet to my new landlord? Any and all suggestions are welcome!! Mind you I returned a previous box spring from this furniture store because inside the plastic case of the boxspring there looked like what appeared
To be a beetle-type bug/bedbug in it. Help!!!!! -

Bugs in bed are not always bed bugs. Best place to start figuring out if you have a problem (be it one that came with your stuff or one that preexisted in your apartment), is our FAQ. This will help you recognize bed bugs and their accompanying signs. It will also give you an overview of how to get them eradicated.
You can also post (links to) pictures of what you find and we can help you identify.
