Got Bed Bugs? Bedbugger Forums » Reader questions (do not fit into other categories)
They just won't go away!
(5 posts)-
My son one day said, Ma there are bugs on my bed. I said well they must be these black bugs I had seen here and there over the years. Not bed bugs or roaches, I have seen these off and on.
Then he had a couple of friends stay over night and when they woke up, all 3 of them had bites all over. Big itchy bumps and they asked me what it was. Well me not knowing about the bed bug epidemic and truthfully clueless about it all said, whoa maybe they are all allergic to the detergent or something. So I got a new detergent and nothing. Then my son says AGAIN, Ma, there are bugs all over my bed. Now he's got my attention. I go online and yes you guessed it, FREAKIN bed bugs.
UGH!!!I do some research about killing them without the expense of an exterminator and I immediately go get a bed bug spray killer, for which I find out I shouldn't have done as that disperses the bugs. So then I go and get some DE and a mattress and box spring cover for my sons bed, which we had gotten brand new from a rent a place, the bed, (DON'T EVER DO THIS) it is where they came from, we found out that most of the rent places refurbish the furniture and because of this, now we've got the dirty rotten little *&*^&$%.
Anyway that didn't do anything. So I call Terminix. We do all the prep. $80.00 at the laundry mat, we clean everything, we throw away tons of clutter, we do everything they say. We leave for 4 hours and go to the laundry mat and do 90 bags of laundry, which wasn't easy per the family member in the wheelchair, come home and collapse. lol
For the next month and a half they come every 2 weeks and spray. Making it a total of 4 total visits from the exterminator. And yet we are still seeing them and getting bit.
Since the initial spray they've been found behind posters in my sons room. Still on his box spring (now with 2 covers on each). In the wheelchair of the disabled person. And on and on.The one place one was never spotted was my room. However, the last time they were here, this past Friday the 19th they DID find one on my bed. YIKE YIKE YIKE. It was horrific that my son was being used as a snack bar but me I'm a wackadoo when it comes to bugs, now a freakin bedbug was on MY bed. Oh boy.
I don't understand it. I just don't. I mean I must have washed all of our clothing stuff 5 times. That is the truth. We have our own washer and dryer and when we got home, well the next day, I immediately started rewashing everything (paranoid to the nth here). In fact we've still got bags I'm going back over. I haven't even hung up our curtains because I know they can get on them. Yet we've still got them. Now though we're seeing them where they've never been and not seeing them where they were (other bedrooms-we have 4 people here).
It's a NIGHTMARE. DDT DDT DDT DDT DDT EPA be damned.Does anyone know WHY we keep seeing them, this is costing me a total of $2,000.00. What in the world or how in world are people with no money or good credit (that's how we are getting the bulk of the 2k paid) going to do? My heart bleeds for them.
Sorry if I'm rambling I'm just so upset at still seeing them and being bit after 4 visits from the exterminators! WHY??

As you are learning, they hide in the darnedest places, and there is no silver bullet to get rid of them. Has Terminix told you what they're using? Do they have you still using DE in between treatments? If so, are you applying it properly (which means sparingly)?
It's also amazing how fast the little buggers set up shop. My bed was taken apart for some house work and had no signs of BBs. Just five weeks later, when we found a major infestation in another room, we also discovered a major harborage in the previously clean bed/bed frame.
Good luck to you on getting this under control. Believe me, I know just how frustrating it is as we're in the midst of dealing with our own infestation. That's downright creepy (although sadly not surprising) that BBs would get in a wheelchair, but to them it's just something with small hiding places close to a handy food source.

Hi Makesmenuts! I feel for you for going through this same thing.
Believe me I do. It's terrible!!Has Terminix told you what they're using?
It is on the contract and the receipts they've given me but I never really took a close look. Just naturally assuming they know what they're doing. lol

Truthfully they told me the exterminators will NOT spray or anything if I had any of this on the floor or anywhere. So before they came we made sure to get rid of all of it. We actually broke our vacuum getting it all up, yep it seems that's some heavy duty dust. LOL
And again truthfully, after this last visit and still seeing them, I said OH YEAH, well to heck with this and went and got two more bottles of DT and I hate to admit it but I haven't used it sparingly in my room. There is powder everywhere and I didn't vacuum it up and I'm not going too. I walk through it, it is in my computer chair, under my computer chair, under my computer stand where my feet are, all around my bed, just everywhere. lol I know that's wrong but I can't help it. I'm a scphiz as it is, this is just making things 1,000 x's worse. But I have used it totally but sparingly in all other rooms.
And yes it is creepy about the wheelchair but that's where we sit while we are in my Dads room. He can no longer sit in it for long periods as he either goes to fall out when asleep or his feet swell up as it cuts off the circulation to his feet. So while we (hubby and I) are in there, one of us is always in that chair. And the little rotten ^$&*%$# found a home in the back seams. Terminix has sprayed it relentlessly and we've also unscrewed the bottom and back and put them through the dryer for an hour. lol But we are still getting bit or else it's my imagination. Either way, everyday I put a sheet on it before I will sit in it, I know get another chair, (not an option) and then I wash the sheet/s when I have enough of them.
Thank you for replying to my post, I feel a little calmer now and Good Luck with getting yours under control too. Isn't this terrible?
DDT DDT. That is my new mantra, lol,

VERY terrible! Isn't it amazing how your life can literally change overnight and you're stuck in a situation with no set end or guarantee of success?
I understand about the DE as we applied it way too heavily at first. I know it feels better to see it around in big quantities, but light is more effective to lure the little suckers to walk over it. We're gradually getting that through our heads, plus we finally got puffer bottles that make it easier to apply correctly. We've accepted that it's going to ruin our current vacuums (fortunately we have two) and will celebrate with a new one when we finally win this war, although my house will never be without DE scattered in strategic places.
The only thing I'd worry about is that the DE might interact with something your PCO sprayed, so be sure to clarify that.
I understand about not getting another chair. It would be pointless until you vanquish the bugs so better to make do now. The only reason we got new bedding after trashing the infested stuff was because we can protect it with encasements.
Good luck!

I can't freakin believe this!!!!! I just got bit by a freakin bedbug 5 minutes ago. What to HELL???? 4 treatments so far, only 2 left, $2,000.00, what in the world am I supposed to do?
For the record, I live with husband, 16 yr old son, handicapped 68 yr old dad with dementia.
16 yr old had main infestation as that is where the bed from rent a place went.
16 yr old does NOT stop his sheets from hitting the floor. Keeps having friends for overnights.Father continues to let blanket hang onto the floor.
Father continues to have bathing ladies pick up sheets I use for his wheelchair and move them to another room, no matter what I say. That will stop next time they come as I will tell them, they move another sheet they will NOT be coming back to our house.Hubby just doesn't seem to give a shit. Acts like a child.
I told him just the other day after weeks of sabotage that he is an adult and to start acting like one.
Hubby would move clothes out of sons room, knowing not too.
Hubby would put furniture outside of sons room, knowing not too.
Over and over again. I mean how many times do I have to tell him. This goes on and on and on, and now I've gotten freakin BIT!!!!!
What in the world am I supposed to do here? I can't live like this or with these freakin bugs. I can't very well get rid of my whole family.....this is a crisis.
UGH!!!
Does anyone have ANY advice?
