Thermal Failure - partial structure re-treatment?
(4 posts)-
Hi All,
We had a thermal treatment 3 weeks ago and according to the dogs, some of those nasty little buggers remain. We originally treated the whole house and our 2 cars.
We're within our 1 month warranty so we're being re-treated tomorrow. But, I'm wondering about their method. Their original plan was to re-treat only the 1 room that the dogs alerted in. That sounds ineffective to me - there will be 7 other rooms they can get to via wall voids that will be nice and cool. Now they're planning to re-heat the entire 2nd floor, and pump 'some heat' to the first floor. The bureau alerted to is on an inside wall of the home directly above a wall to the 1st floor dining room. 'Some heat'? I'm not sure what this means. They also don't plan on re-heating the cars because 'the bugs wouldn't be living in the clothes, but in the wooden bureau itself'.
We paid a lot of money for this treatment, and its warranty. Does this plan sound like it would work?

They came yesterday and reheated the first and second floors. The attic hatch and crawlspace hatches were opened, so I'm certain the attic heated up nicely as well. But they didn't apply any heat in the basement - I questioned leaving such a big area unheated, allowing a nice refuge for the bugs, and they told me the bugs wouldn't move that quickly from the 2nd floor to the basement.
Should I be nervous?

Here is a link to an article on New York vs Bed Bugs about the behavioral response to heat treatment that you may find reassuring.

I think the rationale that your PCO provided is reasonable, if we believe that the second floor is the only affected area in the house.

If the one room re-heat was being done immediatly after the dog inspection and I mean started with in minutes then, I would say that doing the one room would be ok. Amy delay could potentially allow the bugs to move on to other areas.
