OK folks some may have heard that bedbugs are big news but the reality is that they have been around for a while, in fact long enough to influence some aspects of popular culture.

With your assistance I would like to create a bedbug playlist for my phone. If you know a song that includes bedbugs in either the lyrics or the title please post a link to the YouTube footage (if it exists online) or the name and artist so I can get hold of them.

It may initially seem odd but if you include the year the song was written or first came out I think there will be something of interest.

To kick it off I offer you:

Bob Dylan - Subterranean Homesick Blues from the album Bringing it all back home released in 1965.

    http://youtu.be/zP4XP8CaX7k

    The first mention is 0:39.

    Thanks for any input.

In accordance with the AUP and FTC (legal requirements) I openly disclose my vested interest in Passive Monitors as the inventor and patent holder. Since 2009 they have become an integral part in how we resolve bed bug infestations. I also have a professional relationship with PackTite in that they distribute my product under their own branding. I do not however receive any financial remuneration for any comments I make about products.

    Hi,

It has to be officially released via a record label.

I have that Mighty Spoiler song on Vinyl in the museum so yes it would have counted if you you had embedded the link into the thread, as you did not "its to the back of the class with you".

Bessie Smith "“Mean Old Bedbug Blues”
"Gals, bed bugs sure is evil, they don’t mean me no good.
Yeah, bed bug sure is evil, they don’t mean me no good.
Thinks he’s a woodpecker and I’m a chunk of wood.:

    Rolling Stones "Shattered"
"You got rats on the westide
    Bedbugs uptown"

Lonnie Johnson "Mean Old Bedbug Blues"
"Man, a bedbug sure is evil, he don't mean me no good.
Man, a bedbug sure is evil, he don't mean me no good.
He thinks I'm a woodpecker, and he takes me for a chunk of wood.

When I lay down at night, I wonder how can a po' man sleep.
When I lay down at night, I wonder how can a po' man sleep.
When some holdin' your hands, while the other ones eat your feet.

Bedbugs big as a jackass, will bite you and stand and grin.
Bedbugs big as a jackass, will bite you and stand and grin.
And drink up all the bedbug poison, then come back and bite you again.

Something was moanin' in a corner, I tried my best to see.
Something was moaning in a corner, then I walked over to see.
It was the mother bedbug prayin' to the good Lord, for some mo' to eat."

I have to set up all night long, my feet can't touch the floor.
I have to set up all night long, my feet can't touch the floor.
'Cause the mean old bedbug told me, that I can't sleep there no more."

I think I remember coming across some more when I was researching this during my battle.

May I go back to the front/head of the class now?!

And just for good measure . . .

Here is NoBugs' bed bug playlist . . . I don't know if everyone of them has "bed bug" in it . . . but surely?!

I had an email from Lou the other day with information on a paper called "Mean old bedbug blues" by Robert K.D Peterson published in American Entomologist Vol 60, Number 4 pages 241-243.

In corresponding with the author he has suggested a few more to add to our playlist:

    Furry Lewis-Creeper's Blues

Lonnie Johnson - Bedbug Blues Part 2

I have also added an old 78 RPM vinyl I have of the 1944 recording of “mean old bed bug blues” by Vic Lewis and Jack Parnell’s jazz men to the online museum.

Unfortunately like a measurable amount of detritus on the blog this too started out with a false premise though I am shocked that it would have been posted by Sir David. Of course, listening to Dylan late at night after ........ can leave anyone lost inside of mobile with the Memphis bed bug blues.

But truth be told the lyrics are "Talkin' that the heat put Plants in the bed but phone's tapped anyway must bust early May orders from the DA. There is an alternate version that refers to "bet book" as in bookie but the sign in the video says bed but. But then again I still think the line in Tangled up in Blue by the Italian poet from the sixteenth century does not say "from me to you". But hey it's just a simple twist of lyric.

Absolutely freaking right, thanks for correcting NB. I was only referring to some of the over the top demanding, frantic posts and over independent questionable solutions which find their way to the "forum". Much of the information and assist is great but as we know there are those that can only be filed as detritus.

"People laying in ghetto flats, cold and numb
Looking at roaches, telling bedbugs to move over and give ’em some
Oh, it’s hot in here, that’s one reason I’m singing the blues, yeah
Been around a long time, God knows I’ve paid a few dues, yes I have"

Aretha Franklin, Why I Sing The Blues, 1970

Not a pro. I have some knowledge and a success story, both thanks to this site.

Interesting how many mentions we have in blues songs. I cant help but feel that indicates the issues that people were facing. Odd how we don't have loads of country and western references.

    Hi Winston,
Not to go off topic but I do want to note that while I have no patience with "questionable solutions", I do try to cut the frantic, stressed people a lot of slack. Bed bugs freak people
out, and this manifests in a lot of ways but that seems like one of the more common. Responding calmly and kindly seems to work and we often have people comment on their earlier posts compared with the more reasonable approach they end up taking.

    Patience, Good Sir!
