My building has been battling bbs since 2007. I was unaware of this fact prior to moving last April. I had no idea about the bed bug registry, which would have provided more than adequate forewarning. In fact, I was completely ignorant about BBs in general. Now, I feel like it is my duty to talk about the bugs. I found that by speaking to others in my building, we could work together. A handful of residents are now having preventative baseboard treatments to kill migrating bugs. Plus, there is the support from others that understand. I also feel that it is important to talk about these experiences with friends and family. I now know a great PCO, which are the best mattress encasements, etc. I know to check the BB registry. Why not share these facts? Additionally, I have no idea what I would have done without this forum. Thanks to all of you for sharing!

    Hi,

At the end of the day the issue starts and finishes with communication.

The story of if I had of known is all to familiar, we even get lots of why was this not on the news or why have we not be warned. I cant answer those questions, its good to see a positive start on a massive scale in Washington last week but this is just one of those things that we all have to chip in a do our part towards.

Each person who gets a little education may be able to avoid the problem in the first place, it will help with identification of infected areas quickly. It will lead to identification of lighter infestations that are by nature easier to treat.

It all comes back to education and spreading the word, all I know is that its a lot easier said than done on the scale that is required.

At least we no longer get repeats of the early day silliness and people being quoted as saying its not that big a problem (hmm what was that river in Egypt called again?).

Its come along a long way in a short space of time but there is so much more to do.

    David

The good news is that since I found my infestation in June of 2008, I've continued to tell friends, family, coworkers, neighbors, and even acquaintances whom I trust. In that time, I've been pleased to see that unlike me (who like you knew nothing about them until I got them) an increasing percentage of the people I've talked to have already heard about them. So the word is getting out--albeit slowly.
