For those of us who are now going through treatment for BBs--it would be great and very heartening to hear some success stories and how you got there...anyone???

I placed a tag on the top right of this thread with my name. You can click on that and find some happy people. I have treated a bunch of people on this site ... most don't even come on here anymore .. but as you will see it can be done. Best of luck .. and if you need any help or tips .. Just ask

Well, I don't have a success story *yet* ... but I remain hopeful!
Actually, no wait. I think I do have a success story. My success is that I've battled through one BB infestation and am now battling a reinfestation. I've battled for six months. And I keep going. I get up every morning and put one foot infront of another. I remain hopeful each time I am treated that it will be the last time. I've learned to deal with my new reality of daily vacuuming and ziploced clothing. I'm still standing. THAT's my success!
Adele, I always appreciate your posts! (And I still smile when I see your Avatar!)

I think I MAY have gotten rid of them - the sniffer dog says so but I still get 'bites'. I'm trying to relax and learn to live with the uncertainty, it's hard but most people do eventually win the battle.
Yeah, adele, I love your smiley kitty! And your post too:)

I *think* we are a success story. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. We first found out that we had bb's in July '08. We tried to self treat b/c they were only in our bedroom. Thought they were gone, but we think we made them move to our daughter's room, which previously wasn't infested. In November we had a company come out a steam treat our house, along with some pesticides and dust. A few days later we found a couple more adults, killed them and didn't see anything until 2 weeks ago. We found 1 adult in our bedroom and possibly 3-4 nymphs in our daughter's room. Our exterminators came back out and treated the 2 bedrooms. We only saw bb's on that one day and we haven't seen anything since. We wonder if those bugs we saw 2 weeks ago were from traveling since those are the only ones we saw and never saw anything but that day, but we're not really sure.
I think we had a pretty small infestation to begin with, which helped us out. Never saw bugs anywhere but our 2 bedrooms. I always swept our mattress and did a lot of vacuuming, so I think that helped keep the infestation down. We are very cautious now. I always think before I set my purse or bags down and we check out hotel rooms everyplace we stay. My advice to is do a lot of research and quiz your exterminators. Also, even though it is so time consuming and tiring, follow the instructions for getting a house ready for treatment! I really think that played a big part in our success. Good luck and hope you can be a success story very soon, too!

It's too early to tell if I got rid of mine. I had a very mild infestation, and just did thermal treatment. So far haven't been bit or seen any in a month. I'm still on the look out though and I'm gonna get the bed bug dog to inspect one more time.

Many times I read something from a anxious newbite and soon below it is a post from you giving them the advice they need in a succinct and caring manner.
Never, never think that for a second that it is unappreciated.

You can click here and here, to see success stories.
KillerQueen, with respect, I have removed your "killerqueen" tag. I have no doubt that some of those threads tagged with "success" and "success stories" come from your clients, and they will therefore come up in this way. However, tags are used to mark the topic(s) of the thread. The topic of this thread is not you, and tagging it with your username is inappropriate.

paulaw0919, why don't you have a avatar yet? I think it's time you added a pic to your handle.
The other avatar I LOVE is MyLifeinZiplocs. That cat with the tin-foil hat makes me laugh every time.
Adele, if your kitty avatar is giving out virtual hugs, I'm lining up for one!

Hey KQ & Jim - thanks for the virtual love:) it's appreciated
and YOU are the ones who ROCK with your vigilent and kind adviceThanks Adele but the real folks that ROCK here are the Entomologist, Bugologist, Lou Sorkin, and Sean plus the PCO's and associates, KQ, Doug, David, Tony, and other professionals. They are the core knowledge base I have absorbed much from.
The veteran warriors like yourself, Angie, Kate, Marix, Parakeets, Hoplessnomo, and Pamela.
And of course our beloved host.
I'm just a moe who fought these things.

I've been free for 3 months now! I am still insane and do my best to wake up in the the night to check with a flashlight but we havent had any bites or anything at all.
We used a Cryonite based services. The PCO used Cryonite, then a combo of Gentrol and Suspend. It took a few visits but it seems to be all good along with tossing the mattress and couch. (oh, I should also note I bedlamed every crack/crevice in my remaining furniture and put DE in all the outlets and light switches. And even after being bite free for a month I went ahead and got some Demand CS and applied that to the baseboards as well). I may have been a bit excessive but i feel good now.

I got infested sometime around March of 2008. First thing I did was freak out. I didn't call an exterminator for lack of money. Then I laundried and ziploced all my clothes. Then I bagged my mattress, and laundried my beddings. I put everything I don't use into a tupperware sealed with vaseline. I vacuumed the floor, threw out the bag. I disassembled the bed frame, washed it with Murphy's, reassembled it with vaseline in the joints, and double sided taped the legs, put the legs into jars, vaselined the legs, and moved the whole thing away from the wall. Then I DE'd the crap out of the carpet and corners, paying attention to making a no pass zone at the doorframe. I also threw out what furniture I didn't want, and sterilized the stuff that I kept and then isolated the legs. I made it a habit to keep everyday items on top of a sanitary steel desk with double sided sticky tape and vaseline on the legs. What really helped I think was that I kept my dirty clothes on the floor. This was pretty much the one area that was bedbug friendly. Of course every couple of days I would toss it all into a laundry bag and kill any new residents. I made sure that I wasn't accessible for new bites, and hopefully the combination of DE and laundrying the clothes on the floor slowly killed the existing bugs. The total cost to me was about $130 + my time.

I am very happy to see all of this support out there and I hope you are still monitoring this page! I need guidance and I feel like I am loosing my mind and my life! For about 2 months I have been getting bites on my arms with no cause. I am sure you guys all went through this! I am a derm nurse so immediately freaked out and bought all the mattress encasement cleaned etc. Couldn't find anything. Thought is was fleas in my car. treated my car. still bites. My maintenance for my building assumed it was fleas and offered to treat. Finally one day on my daily inspection of the mattress I finally found three babies. It turns out there is a "gentlemen" (I use that term loosely) in my building with a HUGE infestation that they are now taking care of. I bagged up everything clothing related in my apartment and dryed them for 90 minutes on high at the laundromat and bagged them again and threw them in a storage unit with the exception of one weeks worth of clothes for both of us, towel for each of us, and one set of linen. They came in and sprayed my apartment on Friday. I have one new bite, my boyfriend FINALLY got a bite. I actually saw one on the bed and grabbed it with tape. I am definately getting bitten less, but, I am a wreck. They are spraying again on monday, a pest company is coming on Wednesday to do preliminary walk throughs (this a approximate 70 unit building). The thing I can't seem to figure out is what do I do with my non clothing stuff?! When we move out we are tossing mattresses, coaches, chairs etc but what about my wooden furniture? What about my metal tv stands, tvs and computers? books (tons of books near the bed) CDS (also tons near the bed). What do I do with this stuff?! I am freaking out! We definitely want to move immediately after this is contained but I am afraid i may go mad before then!
