Storing items in plastic wraps/bags question
(7 posts)-
I have a quilt type of bed cover. It's one of those that you take the cover off and wash occasionally but aren't supposed to wash the insulated removable padding (kind of a warm, fluffy comforter of sorts that many of the hotels are using these days). I'm thinking of for just good measure, placing this entire blanket inside a couple of sealed up lawn and leaf bags, dating and throwing into offsite storage for 18+ months. Does anyone have any history of bedbugs biting their way out of plastic covers? I'm assuming not since there's information on plastic mattress covers but thought I'd ask? TIA

bedbugs biting their way out of plastic covers
Don't think about it: it's simply impossible....

Yeah, don't think about that or you'll drive yourself crazy. They are definitely resilient little effers but have not heard of any biting through plastic. Would you be able to put the quilted cover in the dryer on high heat for a while? Just a thought...

Good thought - let me check our dryer temps and talk with HQ about it...WeCanWin - 3 minutes ago »

Thanks, that's pretty substantial 'bite gear' these things have so thought I'd ask. -
here is a word of warning. Use thick plastic. You don't want it tearing easily so they can escape. Some cheap garbage bags can get a hole easily.. then they don't need to worry about biting through.
Double and triple bag things.Right now I am putting all my valuables, things I really want to keep, into plastic. This way if one day the unthinkable happens in our house, I have prevented them from making a nest inside my CD wallet or scrapbooks. Because i am not going to risk having to throw those out!
As for the rest, what can you do? -
Go to Home Depot and get the 3 mil contractor bags. They are the best, readily available, bag going.
If the whole thing can't be dried bag and tag. Ensure the bag is sealed. Wrap it multiple times into a pig tail them bend it in half and tape it bent.
To avoid mold put a stocking filled with uncooked rice in there. Rice will absorb moisture out of the air and act as a desiccant to reduce the chance of mold.
